One thing that I like about edge controls

If you continually use gels (particularly brown gels) on your hair, they will start to build up--especially around the hairline.



Edge controls seem to not do that. The edge control that I'm currently is by Design Essentials:

Yes they do buildup. If you use to much overtime it turns white and cake's up. My trick is to use a little water with the edge control to prevent those issues
 
I have the design essentials
It didn't cause build up for me I also didn't use it a lot
