Okay, so after three years of no chemicals in my hair and reading everything I can find on the net about 4a/b transitioning and now natural hair, the only thing I do know about my own head of hair is that it needs ACV rinses!

I forgot to do an acv rinse the time before last and boy did I suffer for it. I have been doing them ever since I read about them but really didn't know if they were doing anything for my hair or not. I experienced all kinds of shedding and it was so difficult to comb through my hair. I had tangles galore!

I was getting discouraged because I couldn't find my 'holy grail.' Now I feel I am at least one step closer and have my first staple product! Yay me!

Okay, what do you know fo sho about your hair?

Happy Hair Growing!

I know it needs to be washed more than once a week.
It needs wide tooth combs and my patience when coming it.
It needs loads of conditioner and that leave ins are a must.

wide tooth with unbreakable ace for specific tangles and daily spraying with my Roots spray, surge,& NO POO. i was seen less shedding then i got chlorine in my hair and I shampoo'd my hair hasn't recovered since. dry and straw like

Thanks for the responses. I am sooo sorry MsPortugal about your chlorine/poo experience. I am sure between the two of us, we have SOMETHING that can restore your hair. Or, we could always make a trip down to the warehouse!!

I also need to be gentle with my hair at all times. Moisture, it needs to be moisturized always, ESPECIALLY in this desert heat!

Can't wait until I learn my protein/moisture balance and everything else about my hair. I love reading those posts where they just KNOW what their hair needs. That's going to be me one day!

My hair hates to be combed or brushed when dry...

It loves conditioner washes...the more conditioner...the better....

It loves natural oils as leave-ins...and hates leave-in conditioners...

It needs moisture...and less protein...

It loves my K-cutter comb (thanks nubian).

It also loves my Denman...

..and my scalp.

They both love:

conditioner washes

Dabur Vatika oil

being covered at night (plastic cap or silk scarf)

Also, my scalp responds well to rosemary e.o. but too much can dry my strands.

i know that i HAVE to do EVOO pretreatments...i have NO TANGLES in my natural hair after using it..oh..that my hair likes to be left alone and that it looks alot tougher than it is!

Hey erica! You are more than welcome. Glad you like it, I don't really see the big deal but I still use it and kept one as a spare. Still need to return two to the BSS to get more products!

SVT,

I have most of your MUST haves and was wondering how you use your amla powder. I have a box full of Indian products and not exactly certain how to use them. Darn it all, I got the Dabur amla MINERAL oil instead of the Vatika. Oh well, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Last week I washed my hair with shikakai powder mixed in some Sauve 2 minute recovery. I used way too much because it took forever to rinse out.

The directions on my Hesh amla powder are rather vague but what I've been doing is combining powder with hot water (and sometimes an oil) to make a thinnish consistency. The box says to make a paste, but I've never made it that thick. After shaking and stirring it really good, I let it cool down enough to pour onto my scalp. Then I wait until it airdries before rinsing it out. Then I rinse it again. And again if needed.

I really want to try FNWL's amla powder to check for any differences in the quality of powders. One of these days... *le sigh*

My hair loves water it looks best & healthiest when I use some form of water to style it. It wants to be left alone after it is styled. It love coconut oil.

SVT,

Wow, nice hair you have displayed in your avatar! Thanks for the instructions, I will be trying that on my next wash day. Wish me luck....

Wow! First i like to introduce myself and say hi to you all... im a newbie here who has been surfing the forum for quite sometime now and i must say that all of you have truly inspired me to find other ways to care for my hair other than the convientional mainstream ways! over the past 6 years i have gone from hair that was past mid back, to chin length hair, back to braids, then to bra strap length to breakage, and these are amounts that i have never experienced before. So in desperation i turned to the net and found this forum and i am forever greatful for finding all of you!!!
wink.gif

So after reading tons and tons of posts i took some advice and started the CON washes, using surge, and taking more vitamins (etc, etc.,), incuding msm, biotin, increase dosage of Omega 3's - and i also have become a PJ!!! (i must say though that i am extremely jealous of the amount of different products that are accessible to many of you and not to me due to my location!
mad.gif
) Any how, what i mean to be saying is that i have been experiencing the same thing with my period being prolonged (as is this post!) and i thought about asking if anyone has experienced this too. Now that i know its not just me and my past complications, im wondering if i should stop taking msm (started taking it for about 3wks and then add biotin to my regimin) or should i lower dosages ~ not that it is very high. Any suggestions out there?

Thanks a lot once again and sorry for the long post
ciao

For me...

I need more protein than moisture.

My hair doesn't like a lot of product.

It loves being washed a LOT! With shampoo! My hair looks and feels bet when I wash it daily. I try to hold off - but it gets hard.

My hair LOVES rinses!
grin.gif

It goes mushy when it wants protein and brittle when it wants moisture. It's very clear about what it wants and when!

I can't use the same products that seem to work for most 3 and 4 hair types. My hair likes lighter, less dense products. My scalp is oily too, so often I have to take that into account when choosing shampoo.
smile.gif

My hair curls with a little help and loves wash and go's!
smile.gif

my hair hates direct heat-blowdryers, hotcombs
its scared of brushes
it likes moisture
it hates rough hands
it hates products that make it hard (alcohol types)
God bless you all.

I know it's growing. Even though I can't always tell it is and even though I wish it grew faster, I know that my hair doesn't need any help from me to grow.

Very impressive! These are the types of things I want to know about my hair. Two years ago, I went to a salon to get a straw set and she asked me if oil weighs my hair down and I was like
huh.gif
. She kept asking me as if I SHOULD know and like I just wasn't telling her. I explained to her twice that I do not know a thing about my hair and I was trying to learn.

Well, the one thing I did know fo sho about my hair back then is that the lady I had gone to twice a month for two years didn't know what she was doing. When I asked her where my hair in the back of my head was, she told me that it didn't grow.
mad.gif
I have had this head for three + decades and I did KNOW that my hair grew back there. After finding the site before we moved over here, I stopped going to her and decided to care for my hair myself.

I tried that oil and no washing thing which left my hair 'brittle' according to the lady who used to cornrow my hair. I asked her what she meant by that and she couldn't explain it to me even though she had been to cosmetology school. I FINALLY know what brittle hair means and from my recollection, my hair was oily but brittle.

Tracy, I can't wait for the day that I too will know when my hair wants protein and when it wants moisture. I should put that in my goals!
