OMG - who\'d a thunck??????????????
My ti-ti (aunt) Melba came over to visit my Mom and I tonight (my Mom lives downstairs in an appartment on another floor in my building) and has loooooog gorgeous hair.
She's been cultivating it all her life. It's relaxed, fine (like mine) and butt length. She's cared for it in typical Latina fashion (rollersets weekly) for years. I was complaining to her about my scalp and she offered to take a look at it for me. Just to see if she could tell what was wrong.
To make a long story short she parted my hair in several places and took a look and immediately said "Nena - venga conmigo..." ("COME WITH ME!") and dragged me to the mirror IN A HURRY. Like by the scruff of my neck ! LOL! She set up some mirrors, and tilited my head downward so I could see and showed me perfectly evenly spaced bright red slashes along my scalp. They looked like something out of a slasher movie. I mean it looks like someone took a knife and cut little perfectly spaced slits into my head. The length and width of the marks were also very uniform. about an inch and half across and negiligible in width - like a slit - literally. Some were brighter red than others. I thought for a half a second and realized that where the red color was more pronounced was precisely where I frantically go fishing for BOILING HOT roller pins when I do my roller sets. I mean they are too hot for me to hold in my hand.
So now I finally know whats wrong with my scalp. I've been SYSTEMATICALLY BURNING THE MESS OUT OF IT with every home rollerset!!!!!!!!!! /images/graemlins/ooo.gif And boy did I get an earful! "Y que tu hacer? Tu esta loca! Diablo....!" /images/graemlins/wink.gif
The pin yanking doesn't happen at the salon so I know it's not the pins themselves but most likely the setting of the dryer I have (it must be HOT! Gosh!) and the proximity of my head to the heat of the dryer (I put it lower down on a surface when I'm home because it dries faster and in my space it works out better. I am sitting under the dryer now with rollers with the dryer on medium as opposed to high and haven't had to yank a single pin. And I did my set I checked and the pins match up perfectly with where the marks are. I just hadn't examined my scalp closely or extensively enough.
She was horrified and told me brew some chamomile and calendula tea and cool it and rinse with that after I rinse my conditioner. She says it will help heal my scalp faster. I dod that and my scalp feels better already. Not itchy after my wash at all and happeir feeling overall. I felt some of the spots that were really red and there are small grooves. I really did a number on my scalp! I am soooo glad I figured it out! I hope I didn't do any real follicle damage.... /images/graemlins/frown.gif
Gracias a dios for ti-ti's huh?
