How did you know she didn't have protection? She might've sewn a satin/silk lining on the inside of the cap or might have a plastic cap/Saran wrap over the part of her head that's under the beret.

I don't "protect" any more than a hat.

And I wear my hair out (wash and go) all winter. It's not dry and is growing fine.

i didn't know hair had to be protected when wearing these hats. i'll definitely keep this in mind when i buy some hats.

I often wear wool hats, my wool hood, etc. with no protection no matter how my hair is styled. I haven't gone bald yet, and it's not killing me. I've just relaxed with some hair-related things and decided to take a step back and really consider how important ________ is in the grand scheme of things, whether in terms of my hair health or otherwise.

I keep them on for a few minutes to a few hours, try to limit friction, and remember to moisturize. I'm not bald yet and my hair still blings. No harm, no foul.

If I wear a wool hat I always put a satin wrap on first.

I know she didn't have protection because I was sitting there when she took it off.

If my winter hats don't have a satin lining in them already, I generally just sew a lining in myself. . . but since it's rarely cold enough to actually wear a hat, it's no big deal.

i'm mad that you started this thread with an "omg". i ran in here like it was something serious, haha. i never wear "protection", either. wow, that sounded like i'm disease-prone.
