I have been wanting to do this for almost 3 years for myself but I never did it. Well today I did it!

Normally, my kind Mom will braid it for me but since I moved to a new state I figured that its now or never. It took me forever, but I'm sure with practice I'll get better.

Just wanted to share.

This was my attempt last summer 2007:

Good job!!! I haven't graduated to conrows yet, I'm still working on flat twist and they look a mess so I already know how my cornrows would look.

I was watching a youtube video that a woman posted on how she does her cornrows. Her tutorial was great. Come to find out later, she's a member here :yep:

I always knew how to braid, but I just could never braid it neat and uniform without getting frustrated or disgusted! Lol
loves it.:waytogo:

Now you gotta come out with tutorial. Just kidding:lol:

That would be lovely. I really want to learn how to cornrow!!!

Foxxi how are you wearing your hair to the Classic next week?

I'm going to put a sew in this evening

(or at least, attempt it......hope I don't come out looking like Frankenstein or Cousin It :perplexed)

I plan to keep it in for only about 2 weeks

Learning how to do cornrows yourself is a great way to grow long hair. You can leave it that way and do anything...deep condition, apply growth aides, hide under scarfs, head wraps and weaves... My hair has grown so much since I taught myself how to cornrow. It is a lot easier than it looks

looks great!! how did you do it? any special technique?
No real special technique.

-I just made sure I stretched my hair somewhat after I washed and dried it.
-Then once dry I started right up.
-I used 2 mirrors.
-First I would begin the part at the top of my head and part about halfway down my head.
-Then I turned around and using a large hand held mirror (so I can see the reflection of the back of my head).
-I picked up where I left off, and part it the rest of the way down.

I hope that makes sense! :spinning:

Let me see if I can find that youtube video I saw a couple months ago......

I know, Im looking forward to that!

I have been putting off getting cornrows all this year because my SO kept saying "....you need to go to let someone braid it up for you...." But I had a bad experience some years ago with 2 stylist that braided SUPER tight and I'm always nervous to let anyone do any braiding in my hair.

Now that I can do it myself, I plan to do everything you mentioned!
