Im sure there is a post here somewhere, and I'm sure someone will gladly give me a link, but I'm puttin it out there anyway cause everyone has their own way of asking questions that might put things in a different perspective.

Is it possible to have thick but not coarse hair? I don't think so because that is my dilemma. Growing up I always thought thick hair meant coarse hair. But once I started doing my own hair I realized it ain't so!

I have got a lot of hair!!!! I used to look at the sleek hairstyles or the assymetrical mushroom bobs (think Salt N Pepa back in the day) and used to wonder why mine always came out looking bigger no matter what I did to try and make it more....I don't know, thin. Whatever, it didn't look like theirs or like the girls I saw in the street.

Just the other day, a coworker asked what I did to make my hair look so full and thick. I told her I really didn't do anything. "I have a lot of hair", is what I told her. Shoot! I work overtime trying to make sure this stuff lays down right!
I say I want WLH but what am I REALLY going to do once it gets down there?

so does anyone else share my "pain"?

I wish I had your pain!! I understand what you're saying. You have a lot of hairs.....dense hair......so many hairs that it really thick....probably multiple hairs in every follicle in your head:lol: ......But your hair texture is not necessarily coarse. Is your hair fine?

I have seen people with really thick hair and the hair shaft is very coarse, which makes it seem even thicker. I have also seen people with thick hair and fine strands as well.

Once you get WL, if you don't know what to do with all the hairs, I take donations.:) (need to replace some of the missing hairs in some of the follicles!)

Yes this is my hair, thick but the individual hairs are smaller in density. My dad has thick coarse hair and my mon has fine thin hair. So my hair is a combination of both. People assume that my hair is coarse because its thick and that not true at all. I have learn to love my hair texture but as a child I cried during hair combing.

I share in part of your pain. I too have thick hair, however, if it is straight, it doesn't look thick. I can only get it to have the full affect if it's in layers and curled. And I HATE that. I want it to look full when it's straight, too. And I thought that course meant thick as well. So what does it mean?? And lastly, I want BSL hair. And I have wondered too, "What the H..E..Double Hockey Sticks am I going to do with BSL hair when I wash and dry??" That's going to be insane!!!

I share your painewholeheartedly. When my hair was relaxed my hair always looked like a wig back in the day. Once I was introduced to the dominican doobie, I was hooked. My hair still look full but it layed perfectly. As we all know, a doobie is just a roller-set and wrap. No curling irons, burning your ends up. HTH

I understand exactly what you mean. It's funny i went through the same thing as a teenager wishing I could thin my hair out. I've learned to appreciate my full hair now. I also recently realized that my strands are a mixture of fine and coarse hair, and not all coarse as i thought. What moisture will do for ya:)

In high school i was often asked if my hair was a wig. That's when my aunt was my hairdresser. My hair was healthy, shiny and FULL. It's still really full and thick considering some damage from braids.

I agree with Blackbarbie. You can have thick hair (meaning you have a lot of strands of hair) but it can be fine (meaning each individual strand is thin/wispy) or you can have thin (small amount of strands) but the hair can be coarse (each strand is thick/fat).

Ooooohhhh!!! Thanks for breaking that down. ((((Now, to the bat cave to find out which one I have))))

Wow I was afraid no one would understand! My hair is thick no matter what I do but my individual strands are very fine and soft. Now that I wear a relaxer its a lot easier to manage.
You should see my sisters hair! She has natural, BSL 3b hair and when that stuff is wet.....all I can say is RUN!!!!!

I tell her all the time, she betta learn how to deal with that stuff because no one will want to do her hair for free (except me of course). My other sister is the same way but her hair is shoulder length.

Any way its so nice to have someone feel my pain.
Once you get WL, if you don't know what to do with all the hairs, I take donations. (need to replace some of the missing hairs in some of the follicles!)

look me up in 2008 Blackbarbie!!!;)
