i've been natural for about 2 and half yrs now. My hair is stronger and longer now than ever b4. i have had my issues... braids gone wrong thin spots, hating my thin hair and wanting to shave it off:blush::blush:

Now, I'm going through because i want my hair straight...like all the time... I fell like somehow this is bad:nono: I feel guilty every time I roller set, every time I flat iron it out ( bad bad heat)

Did or Does anyone else feel like this? I want long healthy hair and the fro is cool don't get me wrong but I'm feel like I've kind of ... um ... i dont know.... like I'm tired of the natural..... I dont want a perm but forgo the bush for now.

But like i said for some reason I feel guilty, any other ladies feel this way???

The question is why do you feel the need to straighten your hair more often now than before? Do you have a new love interest or want to impress someone. Those are a few areas to begin brainstorming on the reasons why you want straight hair at this point in life.

You probably want to wear it straight more now because like you said, it's longer and healthier than it's ever been. Of course you want to see the length and progress, that's normal. Wearing my natural hair straight was not an option. Too thick, took too much heat and reverted in 2 seconds and I still never got the look, feel or texture I wanted if I was going to wear straight hair. So I texturized and got the best of both worlds. I feel ya.

Would you consider getting a texlax? You could do a very light relaxer and leave it on for a brief time without compromising your hair too much.

Also have you tried a coconut milk and lime juice treatment? A lot of people use it for a temporary loosening of the curl and apparently you can add it to your regimen and some say that over time your curl stays a little looser.

Also it sounds like you haven't found a style that you like that compliments your naturally curly hair. Look around at the other girl's photo albums for some inspiration and play around until you find something that you like. :yep:

Good luck! I love the straight look as well and I'm relaxed but I refuse to wear it straight and use a lot of heat except for a couple of weeks right after a touch up or for special occasions because of my hair goals. Besides I watch my hair just about every day.

Anyway if you have hair goals for longer length the winter is definitely not the time to wear your hair out if you want to avoid drying damage and split ends. :nono:

I feel for you...When i went natural, i liked the fro for a short amount of time (like a week), but i just look better with straight hair; it suits my face much better and i just feel better with it straight. I relaxed though because i just wasn't feeling the natural look. Its probably an unpopular opinion with most naturals, but there is no reason you can't wear your hair straight because you're natural...Natural only means that your hair isn't chemically altered with a relaxer; Its doesn't mean you have to rock a fro all the time... NOT ALL, but alot of naturals take being natural to another level with rules on what you should or should not do to your hair and if you choose to wear it straight, you don't appreciate the beauty of it and things like that...Don't feel bad, its your hair

Well I look cute both ways.. must admit:grin: I've jsut knd of grown tired of doing the afro. My hair does almost perfect spiral curls, I've learned how to manage it and everything. I love the fact that now I have healthy hair m=not just hair on my head.

I am going into a new chapter of my life, I've been acting for the last 3 years and i've finally gotten my first national tour. My mom died in Oct unexpectantly @ 53 from a massive heat attack.

Im just in for something new. And ditching the afro is the thing for now....I jsut feel guilty about it after all this years coaxing the curls out and stuff

No, never feel guilty. I think straight hair is stressful. It's too hard to maintain for me. But who says being natural meant only certain hairstyles? If you can achieve it, wear it. Just because you're natural doesn't mean you hate straight hair. I straighten mine when I don't mind worrying about it reverting before the event ends. I've now gotten to accept that I live in high humidity so my straight looks aren't so straight. :lachen:

Don't feel bad, go straighten your hair.
I get the urge once in a while. I want to enjoy the length and I make sure to do all the corrective steps first (pre-poo, deep condition, rollerset, use flatiron with caution)...

Then after 2 or 3 days I get absolutely bored with it and wash my hair again, go back to the natural kinks and curls.

Don't feel guilty, its your hair and you should do whatever makes you happy.
