it was aiight...maybe i did sth wrong...
this is what happened..i took down my 3 week old micros...detangled and preepoo with amla and AO honeysuckle rose with no heat for 1 hr....rinsed...no tangles or hairloss...actually this is where i usually stop ( if i wasnt gonna use AVEDA DR, but would deep condition for like 8hrs or longer) anyways...washed with kenra MC...deep condished with AVEDA DR condish mixed with treatment for 1hr 45 mins no heat....as i was applying...started to notice a little matting and balls of hair on my hands...rinsed after 115 mins...lol...hair so soft...and kinda stretched...this is the kicker...i just used peasized amounts of Giovanni dirrect leavein, breakfree strengther (purple tub) and scurl as my leave -in....at this point i notice more hair on my hands, balls of hair...i seal with castor oil which kinda helped a bit and put like 6 big flat twists to airdry in...will unravel flattwists tomorrow and update...
Im just worried about the massive amts of hair after applkying leave-in
Can some1 chime in?
what did i do wrong?
should i have used only DR products?

PS i dont think i can stand the scent of the DR.....@ 1st it was fine....but the scent it too overwhelming:ohwell:

I think you should give it another try, only next time using just the Aveda products so you can get the full effect of it. Did you get the DR poo too?

I've not had thaat experience, yet. However I would recommend limiting your product usage when you try a new product. Whenever I use a new product I try to limit the routine to a shampoo (preferably of the same brand) and then the deep conditioner in question. Ingredients from all those various products you used my not interact well then again maybe the DR just doesn't work for you. I would give it another try but with a simpler routine so you can really pinpoint what did what.

I don't think you should worry so much about the shed hair. You mentioned that there was none, and then after the Aveda, there was more and more. After three weeks in braids, you should have some shed hairs. If hair sheds 10-50 strands per day, and your hair ws braided for 21 days, that's a minimum of 210 hairs.

What happened when you brushed/combed your hair after removing the braids - was ther even more hair at that time?

Yes :yep: The tip that I would offer would be to follow the directions given on the packaging for your first try. If it says leave on for 2-5 minutes, then try that for your initial use.

I agree with la flaca...you might not have gotten the full effect from the treatment or conditioner by using it together.

Use straight Aveda. No mixing. I might do the Deep Conditioner last if Aveda DR conditioner isn't moisturizing enough, but it may not be necessary. Try it again, then report back here. Remember: only use Aveda. You may want to clarify first, since you used many products... ;)

Good luck!

i didnt intentionally set out to mix both together...i was gonna use the condish 1st then use the treatment after rinsing out condish...but why did i pick up what i thought was the condish and apply to my hair...then i was getting ready to take what i thought was the intensive out of the bag...getting ready 4 the next application...when i noticed i applied the treatment 1st...(bottles kinda look similar)....well...i wasnt about to rinse it off so i decided to add the condish too....waste not want not:lol:
Next time im gonna be careful

PS the more i type out what I did...the more i feel like I was having a DBM (dumb blonde moment) yesterday...maybe I was tired? thats my excuse and im sticking to it!:D

Are you relaxed/texlaxed/texturized? Aveda did this to my texturized hair.

Im 4B natural...is it only for relaxed ladies? I thought Melanizm uses it and i know she's natural

Thanks...so ur saying..use the poo, condish and treatment and if they are not enough use another brand deep condish?
Does aveda have a leave in condish?

I actually did the reverse: I used the poo, then the treatment, then the conditioner. Some ladies use the poo, conditioner, then treatment. I guess it really doesn't matter. It just depends on what your hair needs. If after doing this, your hair doesn't feel moisturized enough, do a deep conditioner. I use any Dominican product in the tub (La Bomba or Silicon Mix). I hope that Aveda will finally make a really deep conditioning/moisturizing treatment. However, many ladies report that the conditioner is moisturizing enough.

There is a leave-in called Aveda Elixir. It has received mixed reviews. I have it, and it's just o.k. to me.

Let us know how everything turns out... ;)

ETA: I'm going to try this regimen, using the Aveda DR. Thanks, Lavendar and Allandra

The rep said to poo, condition, and then use the intensive with heat for 20 minutes. She said to do this twice a week for the first couple of weeks if I had really bad damage and then to continue once a week. The intensive is supposed to seal in the moisturizing effects of the conditioner, so she said. I found that to be true because when I just poo and condition, although DR always makes my hair soft, it doesn't really stay as moisturized. It actually dries out much faster without the intensive. When I use it as she directed, it stays moisturized and silky feeling. She was AA, so I trusted that she would know what she was talking about. HTH;)

There isn't a leave in with the DR line, but many of us use the Aveda Elixir leave-in, it's great. It's being discontinued, but some stores still carry it.

I'm natural and I use aveda dr a lot of naturals use aveda products, let me give you my tips,

First shampoo with dr poo
Next Clarify how ever you like I mix 2 tablespoon of baking soda with 2 cups of water
Then add the intensive for as long as you like
Next rinse and add dr con for 2 min,
Rinse and add your leave ins like normal..
Aveda products are made to use in a system the reps always make sure to tell you use them together it works at its best hth

I have been using Aveda DR for a month or two now and I clarify w/ Aveda Detox, Shampoo DR, Conditoner DR, and then the treatment for 2-5mins in the shower. On days I deep condition I dont use the conditioner nor the treatment. Let us know how the next wash comes out. I bet you will see a difference when u use all the Aveda products.

Shampoo and then clarify? Wouldn't you want to clarify 1st, since sometimes clarifying can be stripping and then poo with DR?

Ok i've just used the DR line on its own (no mixing or other pre-poos) IT WORKS!!!!
I washed first with the Aveda DR shampoo, put in the conditioner rinsed out after 10 mins and then put the treatment and DC-ed for about half an hour, my DRY hair's still moisturised (I'm natural with dryness issues) and the strands feel smooth! I haven't applied ANY leave ins my hair doesn't feel like it needs it.
I'll use this once a week just so and CW with my lustrasilk the rest of the week. Thanks ladies for pushing me off the edge and into the store with this one
