Oil and Curls

I know exactly what you're talkin bout!!!

I learned not to put so much in my hair. But if I do plan to saturating my hair, my hair is going to be in a bun.

can definitely relate. oils just lubricate my hair. the only one i found to give any definition to my tc's (tiny curls, ie naps:D ) is castor oil. otherwise i find moisturising, botanical conditioners & flax seed gel works best.

The trick mighty be to use just a tiny amount of oil. I find lighter oils like virgin coconut and macadamia nut oil define my curls if I use just a trace.

I think you may be using too much. I just mix some avacado and evoo in a spray bottle with distilled water and spray just a bit on my scalp and hair.

All oil is not created equal for me. I haven't quite figured out what oils do an do not work on my hair and how, but I do notice that heavy oils like castor, coconut appear to dry out my hair and pull out my curls if I apply them on my wet/damp hair. I'm experimenting with them to determine if they work for me as a part of my deep treatment. Castor oil works fine for my mother (loced).

My hair's favorite oils seem to be olive and avocado (I know that I've used olive oil in my deep treatments with success). I think my hair doesn't like oil applied directly, but via a moisture spritz or a deep treatment.

i've only used WGHO, and i haven't had that problem, although it does tend to weigh my hair down and make it less "bouncy."

Yeah I experienced this problem with oily products. They just make my hair look like a greasy puff ball. It just felt nasty. I didn't use oil on my relaxed hair so IDK why I decided to try it on my natural hair. I don't use oils at all. My hair likes heavy creamy products. They keep it soft.

i keep hearing about flaxseed gel, where do you get it from?

I just use oil on my ends, never thoughout my hair (except BT on my scalp)

Maybe you are using too much. Just my thought!

i make it from whole flax seeds. flax seeds are full of omega 3, proteins, vitamins & minerals. you can buy them by the bag at most natural/whole food stores. i just boil 2 cups distilled water. then add about 1 cup of seeds. let this simmer until they release their gel @ 10 -15 mins. after that, from evaporation, the longer you simmer the thicker the gel. once it's to your desired consistency just strain out the seeds (colander & cheese cloth) and use. i add preservative (grapefruit seed extract) and i store in fridge. the gel gives great curl def, moisture and light hold, but i usually just mix in with my moisture spray or lotions:lol:
