I have a friend that recently got her healthymid back 2b hair relaxed!

What's more, she told me that she left it on for an hour because it was still wavy in the middle! It burned her scalp like crazy. Also she said she had to still blow dry it for 2 hours to get it straight!! She told me all this like it was annoying, but with no mention to hair health. I am convinced that she has NO idea what goes into the relaxing process and just thinks that its a simple permenant way of getting it straight like she wants. I'm afraid that her hair is going to start breaking. It still looks healthy right now (it's been about 2-3 weeks) but if she continues blow drying and worrying about getting it bone straight it's gonna go down heel real fast. Oh what do I tell her! What do I do! This is someone that I don't know extremely well otherwise I would have already let her know about the dangers or bone straight relaxer plus heat.

Oh No!

There were two girls who lived across the street from me and their mother was biracial and both girls had 2b hair (one waist length, the other bra strap length) and they both got perms when they enrolled into high school and their hair took a turn for the worst.

I saw one of them recently and her hair is ear length and her sister is shoulder length.

Very Very Very sad!!! Doesn't she have friends who get relaxers who have 3's or 4's hair texture that could let her know??? What about the hairdresser who did this??? Or did she do it at home??? I almost can't imagine anyone being that absent about their own haircare and chemicals and possibly damaging results.

I would just tell her what you know - nicely. You do't have to go into details unless she seems open - but I'd mention that relaxed hair has to be treated very gently, not much heat, etc.

She might just end up being your new best friend for saving her hair! You never know...

She did it herself. She is probably just really clueless about relaxers because she's used to her own hair texture and her mothers (who is dominican, shes mixed dominican and black) and probably just never really received a lot of info on relaxers. Sad
