Particularly naturals: How much does the stylist generally put on your hair? A little? A lot? In between? One pump or more like two?

And when they rinse out the treatment out do they shampoo again or just rinse?

So, here's what happened:

I went to go get a Brazilian Blowout. I was already nervous because of all the formaldehyde scares and I was also nervous about them ripping through my hair without any product in it.

So the night before I did a protein treatment and detangled it real good.

First thing the stylist said was "oh don't worry if you see my eyes watering really bad and I start coughing". I'm like :look:
Yeah I had heard of that happening before, but it just didn't sit right with me when she said it.

This salon takes good care to ventilate and has a big fan thing over the chair where they do the BBs btw.
But still, when she started putting it on my hair my nose started burning.

Then I noticed that my head was getting warm. Not burning, but physically warm. That's pretty normal for my scalp actually - I guess I hold a lot of heat in my head or something. So, I tried to ignore it. But soon my scalp was getting hotter, then it actually started burning-burning. I let the stylist know and after trying to hang in there a little longer we finally had to rinse it out. I just couldn't do it.

They were really nice and gave me deep treatment and scheduled me to come back on the weekend to try again.

The experience was too much like getting a relaxer (with added toxic fumes) for me and I did not keep that appointment.

I want the effects of the BB, but I'll be darned if I'm coming up on my one year natural anniversary and have all my hair fall out or permanently jacked :nono:

For now I'm just enjoying my flat-ironed-with-crisco hair :)
Shoot it looks better than when I had a relaxer. And I love my curls.

I was wondering though, if maybe the stylist had put too much. She told me she would have to use a lot on my hair because it's thick and curly, but I tried to explain to her that my strands are fine and she may not need as much as she thinks. She was laying it on thick and seemed to be using it to help detangle my hair (like it was conditioner). Maybe that was the problem. I don't know.

I do BB at home with QOD MAX OrganiQ ( formadehyde free) on my 2 kids. They are both natural and it is very gentle on their hair w/no heat damage. I do shampoo out the treatement afterwards. I don't use a lot of shampoo, just a minimal amt.

You may want to pm/tag Dove56 since she is really experienced with BKTs.

I've had BKT done 3 times at the salon and did about 6 treatments at home. My scalp was never hot.

I have used Lasio, Rejuvenol and Marcia Teixeira (chocolate) at the salon. I used Rejuvenol 6 times at home. I currently have KeraPremium but I have not yet used it.

The stylist used about 2 ounces for my entire head (Rejuvenol and Lasio). For Marcia T the stylist used all 4 ounces.

When I wash out the treatment, I use sulfate free shampoo.

I had the Coco's Keratin Chocolate put on my hair back in 2010. It did not burn. She used less than the 2 oz the bottle came in. Maybe an ounce and a half. Sometimes it depends on how much hair you have. Mine was past APL at the time and my hair is very thick.

The kit comes with a sulfate-free shampoo so I used that. No burning, no pain...Smelled awful, but not so bad bc we were sitting next to a big window and we had a fan blowing on us....The stylist should have used a mask...Mine did....Next time you can have her put a mask on you too.

Also, you may ask her if you can purchase your own formaldehyde free version and see if she'd apply it on you at a price you all can negotiate. Or ask her for a formaldehyde-free product that she would suggest for you that she may have used before. The only difference with those are that they don't last as long but if applied right you should still get an awesome result!
