nutrasweet, sucralose, and hair loss

I have been researching the fake sugars. I was shopping the other day and I noticed that I use soo much of that stuff. I chew lots of gum and that is full of it. I think even some gums that aren't even sugar free (gotta double chekc that out. It doesn't look good at all. I have decided to quit using fake sugar period. Anyway...

I saw some testimonials about hair loss and/or breakage when using nutrasweet (aspatame). I didn't see that in the sucralose toxicity info I read. Has anyone else ever heard of this or thought about the fake sugars causing hair loss?

This is kind out of my norm. I can see mad cow disease scares on TV while I'm eating a McDonald's cheeseburger and not be deterred. I even lived in Washington State when they had the e coli scares at Jack in the Crack (I think)--I still was eatin' burgers. I guess I'm getting older and starting to worry more about what I put into my body.

Ima be sittin' in a field somewhere eatin' grass and sand one day. Eat butter, don't eat butter, eat eggs, don't eat eggs, on and on and on....

I dont know about hair lost but I have never liked nutra sweet. If I drink anything with it in it I get real bad headaches and pains in the side of my neck and in my shoulders. As far as sucralose, I dont trust it either. I used to do low carb and the only artificial sweetner I used was saccharin (sweet n low) ( I COULD NOT give up iced tea) Anyway, once I tried the sucralose (Splenda) I could feel a change in my blood sugar and would get real tired, just like I eaten a bunch of sugar. It wasnt supposed to have that effect, you body isnt supposed to recognize it as sugar. I didnt get that effect with sweet n low. So anyway, I ended up using fructose. Its still a type of sugar but doesnt hit your blood stream as quickly and its sweeter than sugar so you dont have to use as much.

You may has well have the pure cane sugar instead of the cheap refined sugar and the fake sugar. People back in the day used pure cane and werent fat just use a little cause thats what they did. Also there is a plant based sweetner called stevia in most health food stores that i hear alot of health nuts talking about. Just my 2 cents. hth ;)

Thanks for the info. I don't like the taste of these fake sugars. :barf:

I use honey to sweeten as often as possible. It doesn't metabolize the way sugar does and I don't get the peaks and valleys of energy.

I didn't like the taste at first either. I made myself like that junk. I do low carb and anytime I wanted sugar I would add fake sugar. Not anymore. I have heard of stevia. Maybe one day I'll check that out.

I was just surprised to hear about the hair loss. We will have to remember that- when someone is experiencing breakage. That just may be the culprit.

"THIS IS MY BRAIN ON ASPARTAME"
Hi, My Name is Kari from Salt Lake City, Utah -
"I have an inoperable brain tumor from diet Coke. I believe that my inoperable brain tumor can be attributed to aspartame (Equal, NutraSweet.) When I was in college, I used to go the 7/11 every day and get the giant size (32 oz) Diet Coke. It is pretty rotten that the FDA can get away with putting harmful things into our foods!! Before aspartame was approved, tests done by the company who wanted the approval showed that aspartame was toxic, especially to the brain. Aspartame caused brain tumors LIKE MINE in experimental animals."
