I am so frustrated. It seems whatever I put in my hair it doesn't stay moisturized!! Oh sure it's ok when I put in on but w/in about 1/2 hour or so it's right back dry again. Anyone know what the hell I can do to keep my hair moisturized and soft.

I just did the big chop about 6 weeks ago - shaved in the back and on the sides with some hair at the top - similar to a bob but shorter. I have noticed my shaved hair is even more dry than my hair on top.
I am beginning to think that my hair can't be repaired.

What can I do? :nono:

Try Profectiv Healthy Ends.. I've been using Profective products on my Mom's natural hair w/great results...If that doesn't help, maybe you need to switch your shampoo and get a conditioner that gives you slip.

do not use shampoo or, if you use it - dilute it with alot of water or limit how often you use it to like once a month. if that still doesn't work, add about a tsp of oil to your diluted poo mix. if you shampoo, try different kinds: all-natural ones or the very low SLS.

plain ole baking soda and water are good to clean the scalp and hair. works best when using non silicone products.

cowash your hair with a good moisturizing conditioner preferrably one that does not contain silicones (this will cause build up which in turn causes you to use a harsh poo to remove it which will dry your hair out more).

vo5, suave, aubrey organics, nature's gate, etc. are examples good non silicone containing conditioners.

pinkcar, these are just suggestions - bottomline is you are going to do alot of trial and erroring to figure out what your hair prefers and responds to. i'm a such a cheapo at heart so i'd start from using the cheapest easiest products and go from there.

deep conditioning is sooo important! Deep condition a few hours or overnight with a plastic cap, try it with heat/no heat and see what works best for you.

there are literally tons of products and homemade recipes you can try. i'd personally start cheap and work my way up.

olive oil, honey, glycerin, castor oils are all readily available at the grocery store.

elasta dpr-11, lustrasilk cholesterols, ORS replenishing packs are all cheap and widely available.

feel free to mix oils, honey, glycerin into your deep conditioners as needed or to help a product work better for you.

hth a little. hopefully some of the other gals will chime in with more and HUGE CONGRATS on your BC:yep:.

Look at the reviews here. I know it seems silly but everyone (even some desert dwellers) say it worked for them. :)

Hugs to you and your hair. :drunk:

Trial and error is right ... I don't understand what may he wrong. I Just recently I bought some Jason organic poos and condiioners but my hair is still dry.
I also use Giovanni direct leave in and that ain't working.
I have so many products .. they fill 2 boxes!! It's a shame.

If you use heat reduce or stop for a while. If your not using a silky head scarf or bonnet you might want to try that also. Give co-washing a try with a moisturizing conditioner. I mix suave professionals humectress $2.99 and V05 $.99 together and I haven't looked back. I have been doing it for a year and I maintained my entire years worth of growth. For a excellent daily moisturizer try NTM Silk in the a.m. and p.m. to your hair and seal your ends with oil. You may have to try different oils, some are not heavy enough. I had to start sealing with vaseline about 6 months ago with no adverse effects.

Listen, do you relax your hair? I assume you do, and I am also assuming that you are using a no-lye relaxer. If you are, that is one thing is definitely drying out your hair. You must use a silk scarf at night. I would die if I couldn't use my Nexxus Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner. It works wonders. You will see a big difference if you try Jane Carter Solution Nourish & Shine. It's expensive, but it is worth it. Please let me know what difference you see after using these two products. Also, it's helpful to use Nexxus Volumizing Leave-In Conditioner. That also provides moisture. Be sure to apply the nourish & shine to the scalp and throughout the hair.

Wish you the best

P.S. I used to suffer from extremely dry hair also. The only thing worked for me at that time was Wild Growth hair oil. But now that I use Affirm perm, I don't even need that heavy stuff anymore. The nourish & shine is very rich, so you don't need to use a lot.

What works for me is S-Curl and Hollywood Beauty's Olive Creme. You should try it and then seal it with a natural oil. Also, try prepoo w/ a conditioner and do a co-wash more often.:yep:

I hope that helps! :)

Sweetladylovely2, I've been using Nexxus for years--Humectress and Headress then I switched to the Phyto-Organics line of Nexxus for Humectin and Theritin, all very moisturizing. :yep:

Where did you find Nexxus Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner and Nexxus Volumizing Leave-in Conditioner?! Did I miss something? :drunk:

I tried it all. Nexxus Humectress and Mizani Rose H20 Night time treatment work great for my hair as moisturizers!

You know what I've been using??? LustraSilk Right On Activator & Moisturizer Extra Light 2in1!!! When I cond-wash my hair I've been following with the BB Castor Oil Moisturizer and then the Right On, and my hair stays so soft all day, even through the next day . It keeps my hair soft and moist and it doesn't feel greasy. I wish I thought of trying that product earlier in my voyage; now it's a staple. Maybe you can give it a try.

In my experience, when my hair will not *stay* moisturized, it's because it is in need of protein. I know exactly what you mean when you say it feels moisturized at first, but doesn't stay that way long.

same here! It took a few months for me to get it, but I noticed that after I did my light protein deep conditions, my hair retained moisture MUCH better!

What I do is not wash my hair daily...I CW when ever I feel the need with Lekair Cholesterol Cond. and deep condition...my moisturizers are shea butter and coconut and papaya cream butter for the ends...I can go a few days without a moisturizer bc of that.

Hey, Isis, it's the same thing; the Humectress Ultimate Moisturizing Conditioner...I have been planning for the past week to get to the BSS to buy some of the phyto organics. good to hear that you like it. Did it make your hair as the Humectress and Therapee shampoo? They have fairly good prices on ebay...

i think i'm going to have to add s-curl back into my regimen
because i'm having trouble keeping my hair moisturized this winter

with the cold air and the artificial heat...BOOO

i had stopped using s-curl because i thought it was making me shed extra

i mixed it w/ some of my kenra mc just now
and my hair is super soft.

so, i might just be keeping w/ this
