Just wondering if their was anyone on this board who refuses to trim their hair. Like the Cathy Howse method? If so what are the advantages that you see?

I've had 2 relaxers done since January...and I haven't had a trim with either, usually my hairdresser will persuade me if she thinks I need it, but she hasn't said anything so I'm assuming i don't need it, if anything, i think it might make your hair look "neater", but its possible to not trim and still get growth....i dunno just my opinion

i agree, i think you don't have to trim your hair to achieve growth. i do think however to keep your hair looking neat and to make it appear thicker a trim every now and then is good. i get a trim every 3-4 months since i'm still growing my hair, but once i achieve my goal i will definitely get it trimmed every 6-8 weeks or depending on my growth.

I'm with you guys. I don't trim regularly anymore. I dust my ends if I notice split ends but only trim maybe 2-3 times a year. Once I get to where I want to be, I'll trim regularly.

I'm going to give up trims, until I reach my goal. My last trim was back in November, and if I could get that 1/4 inch or 1/2 back I would. Right now, my hair is growing just fine, and I only wear my hair down once or twice every 3-5 months, so I'm not worried about my ends being even. If I go to the hairdresser and want my hair straight, I just ask her to turn the ends under a little, so the ends look uniform. I'll probably do trims more often after I reach my goal.

my mama wont let me trim my hair, i hhavent had a trim in over 2 years and my hair is growing fine, but i do think that i need a trip bcause my edges are very dry and dead, but their not split at all.

well i dont necessarily refuse to trim my hair but its jus that i'm takin really good care of my hair like the fact that i aint used heat since aug last yr and am keepin my ends moisturised and in braids the whole time, and am only scheduling a trim in december coz hopefully i'll have realched my goals

I dont trim my hair anymore, because it is very healthy and I feel that it would be a waste of length to do so

Also, I heard that trimming your ends makes them drier and MORE prone to damage, so that influenced me as well!

I trim maybe once a year, if that! Trimming your hair doesn't make it grow any faster and you only hold yourself back if you trim every time you get a relaxer.

Want long hair, get rid of the scissors!

I used to try and trim every 3 months or so because I believed my hair needed it as the ends seemed dry. Now I'm learning to moisturise them every day instead! I have a feeling that'll be better for my hair than trimming it and not moisturising, which I was doing before.

I haven't had a trim since Dec 6th. My hair looks fine and is healthy. I had my hair relaxed earlier this month. My hair stylist asked me if I wanted a trim. Before I could answer he said, "well, you really don't even need one."

Well i aint had a real trim since feb. and i am 'thinking' of goin in this saturday for a touchup cause i gots lots of newgrowth that needs some taming BUT im afraid. I have gained some length and its prolly bout under my chin now and i like that, but what im afraid is that since i haven't had a touchup in a while that my hairdresser may cut off some hair instead of trim, i dunno. I'm glad i see this thread though cause now i think i wont go the hairdresser till late May. I wash my hair every 5-7 days now and i keep it in twists and bantu knots now and there is much less breakage than i have had when my hair was always permed or pressed so i am liking it like this. :^S I wonder if i should go in anyway or just not and wait longer, i dunno :^P Course i could stay home and study 4 my finals next week instead. hmmmmm. lol
