IDK why, but when my hair is in constant cowash mode it sheds like crazy...but when I flat iron it, it barely sheds....what is going on?

How do you style after cowashing, because maybe when you cowash you are using less manipulation so once you do touch it, it seems like it's shedding a lot versus when you flat iron you comb or brush it daily making the amount of shedding seem like nothing?

I noticed that whenever I airdry and bun once I take the bun down it's seems like I'm shedding like crazy, but it's been up and untouched for a few days so it's a few days worth of shedding?

I typically bun or ponytail it. But I redo it daily.

try eating something with garlic to stop shedding. it has worked for me. i have not tried garlic condit. or shampoos - but i heard they work well too.

I have the same problem. It's ironic, really. When I wore my hair in twists, twist outs, wet buns, etc., my hair shed and snapped like crazy. When I got a really good flat iron and good styling products, the shedding and breakage is down to a level that I have never seen before. I'm now looking forward to a lot of length. Some techniques don't always work for everyone. Find out what works for you and stick with it. Just make sure you're not flat ironing daily and only use the appliance on fresh, clean hair. I flat iron no more than once a week. HTH

I had the same problem when I wore twists and twist outs. Now that I have finally mastered getting my hair straight with heat, I have a lot less shedding and breaking. Part of the reason for this I think is because after reading the posts on this board for awhile, I know that you really have to have patience with natural hair and when I did my twists and twist outs, I was ver rough and impatient with my hair. Therefore, I pull a lot out with rough combing and handling. Now I make sure to detangle a lot more slowly and to use moisture and heat protectant. I see a lot less hair in the shower and sink now that I am straightening with heat.
