I gave myself a corrective relaxer and it worked this time!! I used Mizani relaxer in normal. I think the trick is that I relaxed half of my hair at a time---thanks for posting about that Adrienne

I also skipped on the protein conditioner because of fear of reversion. It's been two weeks and I've washed my hair about 3 times and still no reversion. Yeah!!! I'm going to do a deep protein conditioner this weekend so that'll be the real test

I'm so happy

Good for you, Rayne!!

But, I'm confused. How do you relax one half of your hair at a time? Do you do half of it, then do the other half the next day, or what??

Yep, that's exactly what I did. Oh no wait, I just reread your post. I did it all in the same day. I parted the hair from ear to ear, then I put the back part in a ponytail while I relaxed the front. After I relaxed the front, I continued with my regular touch-up routine: condition, neutralize, condition. While the last conditioner was in my hair, I put it into a bun and then I relaxed the back of my hair. When the time was up I did the same steps as I did for the front. However, when it was time to neutralize, I washed all of my hair, not just the back. Then I deep conditioned all of my hair. Adrienne explained it better so I'll see if I can find that post about it.

That's the only bad part, I had to bend over the tub to do it. I think Adrienne said her styist (sp?) parted her hair from the front to the back. But, I knew I wouldn't be able to wash one half without getting the other half wet, that's why I parted from ear to ear. Oh, I also put my hand on the part while I was rinsing to try to keep the back from getting wet.

Congrats Rayne

. I am so glad you posted on this. I've finally decided that I'm not letting anyone else relax my hair but me, but was a little concerned about getting it all in and out in under 10 minutes. This may definitely work.

Oh my gosh--what a great idea!!! Since I texturize my hair, timing is KEY. Sometimes I've had to go back and "spot relax" places in my hair that I underprocessed due to trying to keep a certain time frame. I will definitely try this method next time. Thx!!!

That sounds great, Rayne!
Did you apply the relaxer onto the previous hair? How long did you leave it in?

That's funny because I had just decided the opposite. I was going to start going to a salon to get it relaxed because I was so tired of underprocessing my hair. But now, I've changed my mind. I'm going to save my money and keep doing it myself. I wish I would have known about that method along time ago

Yep Model_Chick, timing is EVERYTHING!! I always try to follow the timeing guidelines on the relaxers but shoot, but for me that meant rinsing it out as soon as I finished.

blueflower I applied the relaxer to the previously relaxed hair after I applied it to my new growth. I'm not sure but I think I left the relaxer on for about 18 minutes. It took me four mintues to put it on my new growth, so I probably left it on the previous hair for about 14 minutes.

That does sound interesting, but it must be difficult to wash the relaxer out of the front of your hair properly w/o getting the back part wet (at least partially). Will the relaxer still "take" on the back hair if it's a little bit wet? That would be my concern...

I did manage to get a little section wet. I was worried about it not taking too so I waited for it to dry. It was about 95% dry when I applied the relaxer. Some parts are straighter than others, but it's sooooooo much better than it was before so I'm not complaining! I am going to try to figure out a way to keep the back part dry by my next touch up, which won't be until March or April.

I tried this method but it didn't work for me. If I ever try to do my own relaxer again (If I relax again at all) I am going to dry partin down the middle from nose to nape and see what happens.

My hair is underprocessed too. What happened when you tried to wear styles besides buns and ponytails? And is your hair bone-straight now?

It didn't look right. I'd have to flat iron my hair but after a while it'd get all poofy and I'd have to put it back in a ponytail. One time I let it air dry to see how it would look. That wasn't cute either. Some of the hair was curly, wavy and straight. It looked a hot mess. If the waves or curls would have been consistent, I would have kept it because I liked the way the wavy and curly parts looked.

I'm sure there are some areas that are bone straight, but for the most part, there is still a slight wave to it. I'm going to wash my hair tomorrow so I'll double check.

I gave myself a touch-up this weekend. I used Motions mild. Instead of doing half/half, I did it in quarters. I started with the front first and then I did the back. The relaxer stayed on each section for ten minutes. I had to do a corrective relaxer in the back because that part didn't take the last time I texturized in August. I was nervous, but it actually turned out great.

I can't connect to the internet at home anymore, so it might take some time to upload some pictures into my photo album.

Rayne... Thank you so much for this advice... I relaxed my hair this way and it was not only easier, but it gave me time to concentrate on the process and it came out very nicely... Thanks again!

You ladies are awesome! I'm so excited about this information! I unfortunately have an appointment this very evening to get my relaxer done by my stylist, however, in the future, this is the way to go for me too!
