I just texlaxed my hair and I am approaching my 1 year anniversary. While my hair has grown, I have about 4 inches of stringy relaxed ends:( I also have some areas that have broken off:confused:

I don't know if it is because
  • I stretched for six months or if it is because
  • my fine hair didn't get enough protein/moisture while I was in braids for three months. Or maybe
  • my old stylist overprocessed my hair and now my texlaxed hair is making that more evident.
  • I hope it is not because I have self relaxed for the last year:eek: , I don't think it is because all of the hair that I relaxed is thicker than the hair that the stylist relaxed:confused:
I am wondering if all the ponytailing and baggying has affected my hair. Right now I just don't know what style I will wear. I have been focusing on my hair for a whole year and it just doesn't seem as healthy as I want it to be:(

I see people at work and on the street that hot curl their hair everyday and their hair looks healthier than mine:mad:

I hate to rant I am truly blessed and my hair is better off than it was a year ago, I just am wondering what I may have done wrong.

I have length but it is uneven and my fine hair needs help.

Can someone recommend the best protective style for me.

I was thinking about wearing french rolls but I don't think it will work for my fine texlaxed hair:confused:

So far my plan is to deep condition twice per week, use BT, protective style (I may stop baggying:confused: ), and relax every 3-4 months.

BTW: When I texlax I mix a jar of regular silk elements lye relaxer with olive oil and apply for 15 minutes, I rinse with water and apply Nexxus Kerphix Reconstructor for about 5 minutes then I neutralize and conditioned with Porosity Control conditioner and Silk Elements moisturizing conditioner.

I don't think I am suffering from hair anorexia either, if you have any suggestions please chime in.

TIA:)

I'm sorry to hear I can't offer any advice because I'm natural but hopefully some of the ladies will come in and chime in. Keep your head up it's going to get better.:)

you can try baggying your entire head where you don't have put your hair into a ponytail.....HTH

I am very sorry to hear about your hair. I personally think 3 months is a long time to wear braids/mircos/twists, especially for fine hair. If kept in too long it can cause breakage. I have medium thickness hair and I won't go more than 8 weeks with braids in. Its best to get them redone at 2 months and take a two week break before putting more in. I hope your hair recovers quickly.

I'm natural so I don't no, but when I was relaxed I wouldn't wear braids for 3 months my fine hair will break even at 1 month, I feel that maybe the culprit, and when you put the ponytail do you wear it slack? because if it's to tight that might also cause breakage, and what are you using to baggy? that also matters it's important too.

I'm sorry to hear things aren't the way you want them to be (((hugs)))...keep working on it because you have seen improvement! The answer to these questions will be helpfull in figuring out solutions for you.

Are the broken areas where the two different processes meet (texlaxed/overprocessed) or somewhere else on the strand? Is the breakage all in the same area?

Like someone said the braids are probably a culprit. Also don't wear your bun too tight and in the exact same spot for too long.

I don't know if you know this, so just in case. It is very important to find out your hairs need for protein/moisture balance. Too much protein/too often WILL cause ANY hair to break. Another thing, Keraphix MAY be too much protein right after a texlax/relaxer on fine hair. Whewww, that was a lot...but I hope I helped some :)

I'm sorry :( !

I hope that you find the reason behid it but i would suggest you try some french rolls or smthing where you dont have to have your hair pined up,

I gotta be careful about those braids, they can do a number on a persons hair!

Personally, I too believe that 3 months in braids may be too much stress on your hair.

My hair is fine textured too and you really must be careful. I also have texlaxed hair. I transitioned for 22 months to natural hair (from relaxed hair) before texlaxing b/c I decided I did not want to be 100% natural. I found that when I did texlax that my ends (previously relaxed ends )where more stringy and thin than the texlaxed hair. The texlaxed hair was so healthy and thick.

I did not do a major cut but trimmed the ends as I went along. I also started to to mix alma, shaikiki and brahmi powders in my hair conditioner and deep conditioning weekly with that. About once every 3 weeks or so, I would deep condition with cassia (henna-like product) mixed with plain yogurt, alma, shakiki. My hair really started to thicken more and take off in terms of growth, but I STILL had an area on the right lower side that was shorter and thinner than the rest of my hair. BT really helped that area to grow and fill in. I have been using the BT for about 2 months now. I apply it to my scalp 3-4 times per week and there is major growth and thickening to my hair. My tin right side has really grown and is filling in nicely. BT is amazing!

Hope this helps!

Btwn the braids and maybe what your using to hold your hair in a ponytail could have been too much for those fine strands. Maybe do a nice trim nothing major just enough to even it up some, and start getting rollersets/rodsets and/or flexirod-sets, there still low manipulation, cute styles and IMO they look better as they get older but not too old  .
French rolls/twist and french braids are great too, it's a certain way it can be rolled so that it doesn't need stuffing, but if you've saw DLewis siggy (I know she has thick hair) but that looks cute on any head of hair with the right accessories. HTH's

I feel your pain. I have fine hair and it requires sooo much attention care and discipline. I am constantly trimming my ends, hence I am still just past shoulder. Armpit might be a figment of my imagination.

Thank you soooo much ladies:kiss:

I will be using your suggestions, hopefully it will get better. I do think the braids "stole" some moisture from my hair. I will be focusing on nursing it back to health. I think I may be using too much protein too. I have become a protein addict:ohwell:

I am going to wash and deep conditon twice a week. Once with a moisturizing conditioner and then once with a protein conditioner.

I just saw your hair album and your hair looks great to me in the 1st set of pics....... But I do see were there might have been issues after your 6 month stretch.I hope you get down to the bottom of it. Because you hair did look really good.

I took a look at your album and your flexi set came out really nice. I think your hair will bounce back w/the DC treatments 2x's a wk, you'll be fine. A protein mixture I love, but still get a perfect balance of moisture is adding a little Aphoghee to a very moisturizing DC. It's like a mild-medium protein treatment w/o having to do a step 2 (moisturing DC).

Update: I stopped baggying and Now I am using Kids Organic Shea Butter and protective styles. My hair for the first time ever feels moisturized, full, strong, and healthy. It looks better too. I think that using the baggy on soaking wet hair was not a good thing. I am doing a more moderate protective style now and not keeping my ends wet 24/7 has really improved my hair:) :) :)
