Im just curious is any one on a no heat challenge...ive been with no heat for about a month now and it isnt bothering me at all...i plan on going with no heat for a while...just curious if there are others on the board using no heat.

I haven't used heat since July, 2003. I started out by throwing away all of my heating utensils and appliances.

I also have not use heat in a while. The last time I've used heat products was in May 2004. My hair has retained over 8+ inches of growth since then and don't plan on using heat products for a long time.

I was on the no heat challenge for about 4 months until I pressed my hair once and used a blowdryer on my hair one time. So Im sorta going back to using heat. I plan on using heat maybe once a month or so with the Maxiglide. But I would say I did benefit from not using heat (mainly my hair getting thicker) even though I never suffered any problems from using heat before I started the challenge. I do think it is important not to use heat too often (like everyday or most days throughout the week).

I haven't used direct heat (blow dryers, irons) in 2.5 yrs...
I stopped rollersetting & started airdrying over 2 yrs ago...

I may go back to rollersetting or even a lukewarm blowout when I need a trim... (not anytime soon though)

I usually do not use heat. The last time was when I got a blowout about two weeks ago. Other than that I have not used a blowdryer or flat iron on my hair in ages.

I have been curling iron free for the past 3 months. I never thought I could do that. I do notice a big difference in my hair as it is shedding and breaking way less. I am a rollersetter so I am still using heat but not direct heat.

I haven't used heat in my hair in about 3 months...only to slightly smooth out my natural hair for the braider to be able to get the comb through it w/out having to wet my hair. Aside from that, My ceramic iron and dryer sit comfortably in their boxes in the TOP of the closet.

I used to be a daily user of the curling/flat iron and while I'm not on a challenge per se, I've just commited to finding healthier ways of styling my hair. I've been heat free for the most part for almost a year. When my hair is longer I may use by hooded dryer to speed drying times of roller sets (and that on a low temperature).

Aside from that, I don't miss them at all!

Do you ladies plan on going back to (direct) heat ever?.....im trying to go a year without any type of heat to see how my hair will benefit from it. I know my ends will be alot healthier and im hoping for thicker hair as a result.

Cinnabuns: 8 +in is awesome for the span of time since you started using no heat....im just curious, what did you do with your hair during that time period. Did you just wash and go?

I NEVER plan to use direct heat again....((((( except for a lukewarm blow out.... & that's just when I need to trim )))))

Hey, guys, what's wrong w/ using heat? i'm a bit confused. :perplexed I've never experienced any bad side effects, so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question.... :p

i've given up my blowdryer. i'm so proud of myself! i still flat iron once a week (on heat setting #2).. i have to because my hair is underprocessed at some places, so in order to blend with my weave, i straighten it after every wash.

I think I'm 99% heat free, I've used it once since I've been on LHCF. Once my hair evens out a bit , I might use it on special occasions. But if this no heat thing works and I actually grow some hair, I am more than willing to give it up...save the times I get my relaxers.

I have been heat free since Oct 2004. It;s fine but I recenely started using curl wax again on my ends and so I use the curling iron to seal in the product. I have no guilt about it.

No heat since 4/04 and I don't consider it a "challenge" but rather a lifestyle. I don't intend to go back to using heat, except for those rare, special occasions. . .

The only time I use heat (indirect) is when I get a perm or going somewhere really nice. Since October 2004 I used heat 4 times in total, that is how limited I am.

I haven't used heat since Jan 2004. I have a ntural, so most of the time I have just worn an afro. I was turned on to banding by Jessy55, and I am able to stretch out my hair enough to get it into a bun, and now I am doing protective styles.

I haven't used any heat appliances since Jan 2004 either. I didn't start it as a challenge to myself, but I just learned how to do curls (pin curls) and how to straighten my hair (air dry, then wrap and tie with a scarf) my hair without heat. I have air dried my hair since then for the most part. I don't see any need to ever use another flat iron, curling iron, or crimper-not even for special occasions, because I can always do a nice french twist or other pin up with some pin curls or something, and have it look nice and elegant without the heat.
