Hello all. I am new to the board. My dilemma is about 3 years ago my hair used to hang down to my biceps on my arms. My niece convinced me to cut it in layers. Boy do I regret ever doing that because my hair is now between my shoulder blades and seems to be taking so long to grow back. I usually get my hair relaxed every 8-10 weeks, deep condition twice per month and get my ends clipped whenever I relax it. I used to use Pantene and Sebastian Penetraitt products. When my hair began to break in the middle from wearing ponytails, my beautician suggested I use Aphogee which worked wonders in helping repair my hair. After that, she suggested that I start to use Salerm to help ease the thinning at my left temple and the Anti-thinning shampoo. Although they have helped, my length just does not seem to be advancing the way it did when I was using Pantene. I think I should go back to Pantene. What do you all think? P.S. Sorry it's so long....

Hey welcome to the board.....IMO i think that u have a pretty good regime already in tact. but is the breakage and thinning your only problems or do u also sufer from dryness, etc.

Welcome....Once I started getting rid of my layers my length seem to be more noticible...I still have one layer left(grrr)...and I am seriously thiking about cutting off 3 inches just to get rid of it..... While I had a lot of layers my ends were always frizzed and thin. Blunt cuts keep your ends thicker(the more the merrier) and stronger in my opinion. I chopped off the first 2 layers together(4 inches)..then I've been trimming up until recently. I need a trim now. Once you start getting rid of the layers you will see progress. I'll never get layers again. I know exactly how you feel.

hello welcome to the board.
I would like to answer your question, but I don't want to say the wrong thing and Jeopardize you hair.

I just leave it to the experts who already reach their goals and knows what right.

Thanks for all of the welcome shout-outs. sorry it took me so long to get back to you all.

Answer to Mocha105:

No my hair is not dry or brittle. The only time I put anything on it is once a week when I get it washed and set at the salon. Sometimes I think it is a little oily because I haven't had it washed in 2 weeks now and it's limp and shiny.

Answer to Sweetcocoa:

I have grown out most of the layers already. I must admit that I was tempted to do it again when I got my touch-up 2 weeks ago. You are definitely right about keeping it all one length and it being thicker and stronger.

I am considering getting braids for a month or two (but not braid my edges) to give my hair a break.

I agree with the layered thing. Last summer I had a what I thought was a bangin' flip. Well now that I am growing it out I am hatin it, I took some pictures and havent posted them because the ends look thin (but not split). I was thinking about cutting 2 inches or should I wait til I hit bra strap and keep it that length until all layers are cut......HELP!
