Hello Everyone,

I am trying to start taking care of my hair on my own between salon visits. I normally get a relaxer (Design) every 6 weeks. My lady is good. She treats and rollersets me. She barely trims unless needed.

I want to stat washing my hair on my own and only going to her for relaxers & the treatment she does then. This will save me both time and money.

I wash my hair with Herbal Essence (started today), I use Aphogee shampoo every now and then. I also use Chi Silk Infusion.

I just need to know where to get started. What else should I be doing besides washing and conditioning my hair?

I like to wear my hair down in a wrap 95% of the time. My hair is to my collar bone. It was cut into a bob in late January so is this normal hair growth?

Any tips or product recs would be greatful.

Thanks in Advance,
Mala

Welcome to the forum!! :)

I'm not relaxed anymore, but some haircare tips are universal. First of all, if you already don't, you need to make sure you are using a silk or satin scarf to tie your hair down at night (unless you have a satin pillowcase). My hair became so much smoother and more moisturized after I did this simple thing (and stopped using cotton scarves--which sucked the moisture out of my hair).

Your hair growth sounds normal and you seem to have retained a lot of length (which to me is the real key to having longer hair). Hair always grows. Maintaining what you grow is the thing.

And besides washing and conditioning your hair I would recommend that you find a good moistuizer that can be used on your hair daily (hopefully those who are relaxed will have recommendations).

Good luck to you on your hair journey. You are in a great place to get help. ;)

Welcome Mala!
:welcome2:
What conditioner do you use?
One thing you should definitely start doing is deep conditioning with a good moisturizing conditioner.
Deep conditioning once a week is fine.
You also want to start moisturizing your hair on a regular basis.
What shampoo do you use?
Is your hair in good shape now?
What are your goals?

There is a lot of information on here.
It can be overwhelming start small and start building up.
Try not to go too crazy with buying products. lol

Do a search before you create a thread next time, Missy!!!:naughty:

Just kidding. (even though you may encounter this attitude sometimes)

:kisses::welcome2:

Happy Hair Growing!!!:yep:

Welcome:bighug:

You will find tons of GREAT information on this site. Take your time going through various threads. There are answers for everything.

Hello!

I would suggest, reading some threads to get some ideas on different products...but essentially, every regimen has a moisturizing conditioner, leave in conditioner, heat protectant, shampoo, protein conditioner, daily moisturizer and some sort of oil that can be used to seal the moisturizer in! I think you have started on the right track. If you trust your stylist talk to him/her and find out what products they may recommend for your at-home styling.

Good luck...and PM if you need any help!

Welcome! and good luck with making a regimen. You'll learn a lot here whether it be stretching relaxers, styles, products, tools, regimens, etc etc etc....

just READ a lot. And when you have a question, do a search first, because it's likely we've discussed the very question pretty recently. ENJOY and can't wait to see you postin around. :)
