Hi ladies,

I just joined this forum and am a bit overwhelmed by all the information that is here :spinning:. I just relaxed my hair for the first time a week and 2 days ago (I'm 30 years old and wanted a change :yep:). I want to take care of my hair as best as possible and most of all I want it to grow and be healthy and bouncy while doing so.

As it is right now, it is at shoulder length. It was a bit longer when it was natural but my stylist had to cut it to even it out. I love the cut, the ends look even and its manageable.

My regimen so far is:

- wrap or roller set at nights
- limit the use of flat irons and blow dryers
- wearing my hair out (i was told that hair needs air to grow)
- get it washed weekly
- treat every two weeks
- drying method will be hooded dryer
- continue taking GNC Hair, Skin and Nails Vitamin

Can any one give me some more tips? Or show me where I am going wrong? Thanks so much!!!

Hey there newbie!

Check out the link in my signature for more info on relaxed hair.

Sounds like you're on the right track though. What products do you use?

Thanks sunnieb! I use Mizani products.....

Do a microtrim every 10 to 12 weeks. Micro is like 1/2 a cm.

You may need a light protein treatment but don't overdo it.

Read the threads on stretching relaxers with the goal of avoiding overlaping the process on your new growth.

Welcome!

Patience is key, you will go through some bad and good products and techniques, but eventually you will figure out what works best for you.

Keep at it and you will see results in no time!

Welcome Loving to the board:bighug:.

I see you wear your hair out because of what you have been told but I would recommend that if you do, please try and keep it off the back of your neck to prevent it from rubbing against clothing dya in and day out as this will cause a couple of problems over time. For example, the constant rubbing will cause the ends to dry out, then split and eventual breakage will occur. You want to retain as much of the hair that you grow as possible.

You may want to consider protective styling, like bunning, braiding or weaving your hair, but not too tight - or you can wear a wig over your own corn-rowed hair. There are countless stylish wigs out there. Choose one that truly compliments you. Happy hair journey (HHJ)

Question for you all....should I moisturize and seal everyday? My hair is not dry and feels soft to the touch. However I moisturized and sealed last night and am happy to report that my hair is very shiny.

It's limp though - combination of using a bit too much mositurizer I think and I had an intense work out session at the gym this morning. My edges were a bit damp and did not get to dry fully by the time I was ready. I preferred to come to work like this rather than blow dry my hair because based on what I have read on the forums so far, it is beter to air dry than use direct heat.

back in Sept, i decided to go back to relaxing as well. i pretty much have the same story and regimen that you do. my hair is fine and it's not as thick as i would like it to be right now, so i incorporate weekly light protein treatments. i use Ovation or Aphogee 2 min reconstructor. i air dry my roller sets or get under the dryer. that is the only heat that i use. i moisturize and seal daily. i use Mizani Coconut Souffle and Keracare essential oil. i recently started using Biostrand Phorme daily leave-in to lightly mist my hair, without disturbing it. it is a protein as well. i wear my hair out or i will twist and pin my hair up in the back to avoid friction. when it is windy out, i light wrap a scarf and tie it under my neck for protection. i trim when needed. i tried to get a trim last month and my stylist said i didn't need it. so i will be trimming in December with my next touch up.

Your hair looks amazing!! And thick!! It does not look thin to me! Was it that long when you initially relaxed it or has it grown since then?

it was a little longer. the day i relaxed, i had to get 2 inches cut off it was uneven and i needed a good trim. just like you, i woke up and wanted a change. i see we are both in a challenge together, so hopefully we can keep each other encouraged and both make our goal by April!

oh thank you by the way! :lachen:
