Hi I'm a newbie from London and this is my first post

I used to wear my hair in a sewn in weave for a long time about 3 years, I took it out for a couple of months then put it in again for a year. In September 2007 I decided I have enough and wanted to be able to feel my scalp again properly so I took it out, my hair grew loads and I had about 5-6 inches of new natural hair so my hair was just passed my shoulders. I relaxed it myself as I was a bit broke at the time until payday and I couldn't bear to walk around with so much fluffy hair out as some was straight and some wasn't it looked odd.

I relaxed it and it looked really good, however I don't think I smoothed it enough as it was still so I decided to relax the whole new growth again the next time. Well you guessed it; it started to break I lost about 1 inches to breakage, and a three of weeks ago I faced up to it and thought there is no point hanging on to the dry split ends so I gave myself a good trim approx 1-2 inches.

So over the last 4 months I have lost 3 inches!!!!

I want to get my hair back to being thick and healthy and grow 3 inches by April; is this realistic? Also I am quite attached to my GHD Straightening irons but I realise I will have to let them go a bit but once or twice a week should be ok right?

So now I am 2 weeks in to my new routine, I clarified/ chelated my hair a week before my relax on the 15th February and I have been wearing it up in a baggie last week with a mix of EVOO Nexxus Humectress Conditioner or sometimes ORS Hair Mayonnaise with a squirt of Vitamin E Oil, this week I am not bagging it but I am still wearing the ponytail/bun with Keracare essential oils on the end with a bit in EQP Mango Butter.

My hair is quite thick but I noticed that quite a bit of hair comes out when I comb my conditioner through?!

I'll keep you posted, Thanks!!

Hey butterfly_wings!

:welcome3: don't forget to take pics during your hair journey, sometimes you don't realise how much progress you've made! Perhaps you could try rollersetting instead of flat ironing.

Sounds like you are off to a good start happy hair growing :)

Welcome to the board ! It sounds like you're on the right track with baggying.

It's normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day. Does it seem like you're losing more than that? Also, how often do you shampoo or conditioner-only wash your hair? If it's less than once a week, your scalp may be telling you it needs to be cleansed or rinsed more frequently.

I think flat-ironing once a week is fine as long as you use a heat protectant. It's even better if you let your hair airdry before ironing it instead of blowing it dry. I don't know if any ladies here are using direct heat more than once a week.

Hi
Thanks for the replies; I can’t believe how much I have leant about hair over the past 3 weeks!!

I guess the normal amount of hair comes out then as you say 50-100 is ok, it is just a bit shocking. Since I first clarified and deep conditioned my hair about 3 weeks ago I have hardly noticed any breakage to then ends like I had before!!

My goal is bra strap length!!! I am currently collarbone length in most places; the front is shorter as I had a fringe in the past.
