Okay I've been lurking for a while now. The board can be so confusing with all the threads!
I grew my relaxer out back in 2000 and I haven't regretted it sense. It was hard to find a decent stylist in Dallas who didn't want to give me a weave or one who knew how to press. Gradually I moved away from hard pressing when I moved back to Cali and have been au naturel ever since.
I just started me new LHCF regimen in January. I am all natural, but typically I would flat iron my hair daily. Bad idea. Even though my hair is past my shoulders, I started seeing way too much breakage so I quit it. Now I'm opting for low maintenance (buns and updos) for daily styling. I only intend to wear my hair down for my birthday in the next few months and in the summer on vacation...and maybe once in the fall.
My regimen is simple:
-I wash using either Dr. Bronner's Liquid Soap (pepperming or lavender) or Creme of Nature Detangling Shampoo. I alternate because hair can become too dependent on one product if you use it too much.
For conditioning, I use, Soft Sheen Optimum Oil Therapy Ultimate Recovery Conditioner, Oscar Blandi Smoothing Hair Treatment, and the Apoghee 2 Step Protein Treatment.
I use a mix of Jojoba oil, coconut oil, a dab of glycerin, and a splash of aloe vera juice as a softener. Then I roll my hair with Solar Rollers and use my soft bonnet hair dryer attached to my ceramic-tourmaline hand held dryer.
I use the Organic Root Stimulator with a little rosemary essential oil added in on my hairline and around my temples.
I take Phytophanere Hair Vitamins that I buy from CosmeticMagic.com. They are the BEST!! A friend says she takes the Nioxin vitamins but I don't use them. I'm hooked on Phyto. They really grew my hair a lot.
I drink a lot of water (Fiji mostly--which I also use sometimes for rinsing my hair) and try to eat a pretty healthy diet.
My hair is super healthy on top of being super soft. I love all the great tips you guys put on here. I'm a believe that less is more so I try to keep my regimen simple. Natural oils and essential oils are very good at conditioning black hair. I am shooting for mid bra-strap length by August!!
Well just wanted to share. Happy growing! Keep it positive!!
