I have 4a/b hair and I'm just starting to take care of my hair but it is so dull looking. What can I do to get the shine?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Hi, and welcome. Try coconut oil I find this is great for shine as well as making my hair soft and silky. I use it after my leave-in to seal in moisture. HHG.

How do you style your hair after washing? For me, blowdrying is a no-no. My hair will have sheen, but it won't shine and it will also be puffier - regardless of the products that I put on it. But if I rollerset first, the hair comes out smoother so it tends to have more shine as well as sheen.

Also check your products. Some products can leave a film or build-up on your hair that will make it dull.

I would advise a clarifying treatment followed by a deep conditioning treatment to eliminate product build-up and a possible dryness issue. Then you can start isolating products and styling issues.

A clear rinse is a temporary solution that smooths the cuticle and boosts shine.

Try a cold water rinse (right after you condition), I usually get shine from this because the hair cuticle lays down better. Also using Paul Mitchell Silky Straight (Shampoo, Conditioner and Serum) has helped me with smoothing the cuticle all the way down the hair strand. So my hair looks silky and shiny, without an oil sheen spray.

I recommend trying Sebastian cellophane. I just used ginger in my hair but it also comes in clear gloss. Try a more moisturizing regimen and Aveda's brilliant hair serum. I use it after my leave in and my hair is shinin'.

You guys are awesome and now I have somewhere to start.

I've been wearing braids for a while so I have good growth it's just lifeless and dull.

I think maybe I do need to clarify.

THANKS AGAIN:D

You could try Coconut Oil or EVOO.
