Newbie here - need help with natural 4b hair

I just started my healthy hair journey. Last relaxer was in 11/06 so I've been natural for some time. I've been growing my hair out for the last few years as I finished up grad school. I didn't have much time for maintenance and just wore braids. Now, I'm finally done with school and am still wearing wigs because I I really don't know what to do with my hair. I usually have it braided in 5 or 6 sections underneath. I'd really like to have healthier, longer hair that would allow for flexibility in styling without a relaxer. I've recently starting a vitamin regimen, as well as cowashing and bagging but I'm not seeing any difference yet.

At it's longest, my hair is collar bone length, stretched.

My question is, I have searched the forum but couldn't find a solution for my most significant problem. After I wash my hair, I have tangling and little balls of knots all over my head. I haven't been able to find a thread dedicated to naturals (with very course hair) that talked about tangling issues. Any suggestions?

TIA, ladies!
