Hi! I'm new to this forum, well, kind of. I've been lurking the board for about a month, but was having trouble registering. I LOVE this place! Finally, somewhere where everyone else is as obsessed with hair as I am! I have a few questions though, that I hope you'll can help me out with. 1) My daughters hair is very thick and curly. It's almost down to her waist in back (1-2 ins to go), in most places, a little shorterin front- reaches a couple of inches below her shoulders, but this is when it's stretched out. Once water/moisture hits it!!!! up it goes, so it looks as though she only has just below- shoulder length hair! She would like to wear her hair out sometimes, like her friends, but due to the texture, will just turn into a huge puff, which will be hard to comb out later. What can I do besides relaxing, or using a flat iron..../ I've already tried the henna, which she does not like, and have not tried the coccnut-lime recipie as yet. HELP! 2) For those who texturize their hair, from what I understand, it's just a relaxer left on for a shorter time, am I right? Once I did that to my hair, so I could attain an easier combuot after washing, and in order to get nicer braid-outs, but the problem was that I couldn't wear it curly= wsh and wear. I love the look that some of the Jazma models have, and some other sites I've checked out, but can't seem to get that look. My hair looked the same, though easier to comb out. I'm not sure what texture it is, kind of mixed, curly straight...What could I have done wrong. 3) Does anyone know how Brook Kerr in the thread about eating eggs, got her hair to look like that? Is it possible to achieve that at home?
Sorry this is so long, but now I've finally found a place that cares about hair as much as I do! Thanks in advance to all of you who make this a great place!!

You're correct, to texturize, you would leave a relaxer on for a shorter period of time. In my case, I can leave it on for the same period of time, but use a weaker strength relaxer. I can easily wear it wash n' wear curly and do a roller set or blow dry to get it straight. It would help if you knew your hair type because everyone's hair doesn't texturize well.

Depending on your hair type, you may be able to get that look with a texturizer. You said that your hair was curly straight. The straight part will still be straight after texturizing.

Welcome, I'll just jump right in here then.
Have you done the second henna with oil? the oil makes the hair softer.
You could try braid outs w/ non-alcohol gel w/aloe vera or light oil and African shea butter.
Or just blow dry/press it for special occasions that will keep the damge to a minimum.
Maybe you should wait on the chemicals until she's old enough to care for it herself and know what she is doing to her hair IMO.

Hi Qtpi....Welcome to LHCF!

When it comes down to your little girl's hair, without using any chemicals, the only option I can think of is to have her to wear her hair out only on the days that the weather will permit. On those days I would try braidouts using the cornrow set method with 5-6 vertical cornrows. The products I would experiment with, for starters, would be Loreal's Nature's Therapy Unfrizz Smoothing Treatment as a leave-in, African Royale M.O.M. Miraacle Oil Moisturizer as well as Wondergro Shea Butter Mega Moisture Protein Complex Fine Mist Hair & Body Oil. All of these products I have seen at Sally's but I don't think they have a product satisfaction policy that will allow you to return products like some other chain stores. I hope this helps (HTH).

Welcome...I'd wait on the chemicals ...until she is older..

Tahnks everyone for the welcomes, and advice. I do plan to wait till she's old enough to make her ow decision, and understands all the pro's and cons. I'm against doing it while she's young, myself, but wanted to know if there were any other options out there. Thanks again!
