Hello Ladies.... So I am new to LHCF and I want to grow my hair out. The problem is have no idea what to do. For the 1st part of my life I wore braids and the second half a sew in and every now and then I would relax my hair it would fall out and I would go back to the weave. So now I'm tired of the weave and I'm 100% natural. For the past month I have been going to a Dominican Lady to get my hair straightened. I go every week and she deep condtions, rollerset, blow drys and then flat iron. I'm scared that the weekly heat is too much on hair. If it is and I just go every other week what do I do with my hair those inbetween weeks? (I have two left hands) Also what products do you ladies suggest? I need help so any advice is welcome and appriciated!!! Thanks and Happy New Year!

Hello and welcome jjones!

Because there is no one cookie cut way that addresses everyone's hair problems could you please post pictures of the state of your hair? That may prove to be helpful.

A lot of ladies simply bun between hair care services and it seems to be a tested and proven method at retention. I hate buns personally, but do you think they can work for you? Do a search for Pictures of Buns/Bunning Styles/or simply Buns and see what you get. I haven't figured out how to post a link yet, so maybe one of the sisters here can hook it up for you. TIA.
Happy Hair Growing!

My hair 4b I have no idea how to add pics beyond my profile pic. I think my hair is too short to go into a bun. Thanks for the link to the newbie manual. I'll have to read through that.

If you are natural then you need to start finding protective styles for your natural hair instead of going to the Dominican salons weekly. You're risking heat damaged hair that won't revert to its natural texture. That damage can't be repaired.

If you prefer straight styles all the time, weaves are the best route instead of straightening your natural hair. In my opinion, why be natural if you wear your hair straight all the time? That's the fun part of being natural. (I'm texlaxed)

Learning to embrace your natural curls is the first step. Then finding styles such as twist outs, braids, bantu knots, etc. is the second.

If you want to wear straight hair, then perhaps doing a BKT or getting texlaxed is best. (although you said chemicals dont' work for you)

Especially if you are tired of wearing weaves. There are even some weaves that will match your texture so you don't have to straighten your leave out. Check Ediese's fotki. BlackMaster Piece has created some GORGEOUS STYLES with her natural hair. She has a really nice blog as well.

:welcome:

lol @ 2 left hands
you can start with getting yourself a good deep conditioner, start doing that on your own regularly

Welcome! So you are natural 4b? How long is your hair? I've never been to a Dominican salon. I think the heat and manipulation weekly might be a bit much. Have you ever tried natural styles? How about going to the salon less often? Then on the weeks you don't go, how about washing, moisturizing, and putting the hair into cornrows, braids, or twists to set. Leave it to dry then undo it. If you get a tight set, it should last a week.

supermodelsonya- I can't find BlackMaster Piece on here.
Mwedzi- My hair is neck length so I feel that it is too short to wear without straighting it. Plus I don't know how to do anything you desribed (the two left hands). BYTW your hair is gorgeous!

Thank you. If you don't have much hair skill, you can still wash and detangle your hair. Then just twist it into about 25 -30 twists. All that you have to do is wrap 2 sections of hair around each other, there is no skill needed. Make 25-30 twists while wet and let them dry. Then undo them. That will give you a twist out that you should be able to wear for 1 week.
