Okay, so I'll be 18 weeks post come Wednesday, and every night when I go to moisturize my ng, I feel some knots/matting here in there. It isn't serious matting/knots because I'm able to get them out but just the fact that it's there, bothers me.

My question is this: I'm not relaxing until the end of December but I wanted to know if after washing and deep conditioning my hair, would blow drying and flat ironing the ng be defeating my stretching process? Let me mention that I'm stretching for thickness and I don't want the blow drying and flat ironing to take all this away. I hope I'm making sense. :look:

TIA!

Well, I don't think it would be a waste but I wouldn't want you to have any issues with heat damage. How do you normally wear your hair? I think that some of the ladies can give you some ideas as far as smoothing and managing your ng. Mine doesn't bother me much any longer. But I try to use some water based products to moisturize and not just oils. It seems to make it more manageable that way to me.
But anyway, bump!

I bun all day 24/7. My ng lays flat but when I'm going thru it to apply my moisturizer and oils, I feel the knots and stuff.

Same as me. Do you have a problem going thru it when it is time to wash? I feel the forest when I moisturize but I don't worry about it. When its time to wash, I go through it gently and detangle before I wash and then section into 6 plaits and wash.

While washing it isn't thaaaat bad. I guess because the water is running on it. I wash in 2 big plaits and detangle. I might try washing in 4 later on this week and see how that works out.
Thanks for you response.

******BUMPING*******

I am seven weeks post. I wish that I could go 18!!! anyway, I have the matting problem. I co wash my hair and let the water detangle it. When I come out of the shower, I GENTLY detangle with Pantene detangler. Then, I spray the roots with sta soft fro and gently put my hair in a bun. I dont even care about the edges and kitchens.. I just grease them down.

I put NTM Leave in on the ends and seal with NTM Healing Shine Serum.

This is what has worked for me.

By the way, I have 11 more days until I get relaxed and I cant wait.

Congratulations on being able tostretch for 18 weeks!!!!

I feel some knots in my NG when moisturizing, too. I section my hair and apply moisturizer and oil to each section. Usually, I just work the knots out with my fingers, and spray on some S-Curl if it's particularly stubborn. I think it's totally normal to feel some tangles, especially if you're not combing every day.

Yeah I know it's normal to get knots here and there, but do you think blow drying and flat ironing would be damaging my ng?
