new procedure

maybe some of you have already read in one of my other posts that since the last time i washed my hair i wet my hair and then put conditioner in the length of it only. then i wash my scalp and maybe about 2-4 inches of hair. then i rinse and apply my regular or deep conditioner.
i just wanted to know what y'all think about this. my hair came out real soft and shiny.
since i don't do the conditioning washes i think that this will work wonders for my hair.

nay /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think it sounds very logical. My scalp is the only part of my hair that really gets oil. My ends dont need shampoo as much as my oily scalp does. i am going to try this technique tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for posting this washing technique. It does make sense.

Hair is drier at the ends (at least for me) and it probably is a good idea to just wash the scalp (at least from time to time) and leave conditioner for mid to ends only.

Like a 'customized' wash/conditioning for parts most needed /images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll give it a try too.

thanks nay! sounds like a very good idea. Conditioner only washes dont work too well for me and this sounds like a much better option. I'll try it and post my resultd on sunday

What a great idea!!! I'm scheduled for a wash tonite so I will definitely try this.

Thanks for the tip.

I read about something similar to this on the Long Hair Lovers website. They call it CWC (condition-wash-condition). They put a less expensive conditioner on the length of the hair to protect it from the shampoo then they shampoo their scalp only, rinse the shampoo from the scalp then rinse the conditioner from the length. I tried it a few times, seems nice.

This is what I read about it: (Not my words)

"To use the CWC method the main point is to protect your length from shampoo and shampoo residue.

Wet your hair.

Apply conditioner from your ears down.

Apply shampoo to your scalp area and massage into that area only.

Optional step- hold out your length and rinse the shampoo from your scalp area.

Rinse all of your hair.

Apply conditioner as a final step.

Rinse well.

You can add variations to this like adding a vinegar rinse in after your shampoo rinse and before your final conditioning.

I've been using this for a couple of years now... maybe more, and it has really helped my hair improve."

This was what one womam posted about the CWC method.

LUVABLE LADY,

that's exactly the hair site where i got it from /images/graemlins/tongue.gif!!!
i like that hair site a lot and they are really into some looong hair. i mean they have a measuring day. that's serious. i like that though.

I'll give this a try. Believe it or not my hair can't take any type of conditioner wash. Maybe it's the products I use on my actual hair, I always get build up or my hair looks duller when I style it. I'll give it a try though.

yes, and Hype Hair magazine actually put this same method on their list of hair care tips. They said to put conditioner on the ends before washing the hair. I think it was either last months issue or the month before that.

This is a great idea! Conditioner washes never worked for my oily scalp, but I was always a little hesitant in the back of my mind about haveing shampoo on my length as often as twice a week. I know the water from the wash is moisturizing, but I also know I have fine hair that after a while - any shampoo, no matter the formula - will begin to ravage.

I'm going to try this the next time I wash at home. I agree that it's a great way to use up conditioner that you don't love, while protecting the hair from mutiple shampoos a week.

Great suggestion NAY007!

I'm glad this was brought up. I'm starting to remember reading that too-that you should only cleanse the scalp and not the hair.

The way it was explained to do this is to part your hair and apply the shampoo directly to your scalp as if you were "greasing" your scalp. Then, massage the shampoo into the scalp with your fingertips and rinse. The shampoo never touches the ends.

I wish I would have remembered this sooner.

Thanks, NAY007. This sounds like a wonderful idea and a great way to use up some of the conditioner I have. CO washes don't work for me either cause my hair just comes out lifeless and doesn't feel clean so this sounds like a perfect alternative.

I'm trying not to shampoo until after my t/u on Wednesday but afterwards, I'm definitely going to try this method.

I was telling Blkmane (a little while back) that I have been using my Tropical Avocado conditioner as a pre-shampoo treatment. However, when I shampoo my hair, some of the shampoo goes onto the length of my hair when I'm rinsing it out. I remember reading at the Long Hair Lovers board that some ladies shampoo their scalp while their hair is up in a bun (haven't tried it yet). How do you keep the shampoo from going down the length of your hair?

allandra,

i could not wash my hair if it was up in a bun. it would completely tangle. i always have to wash my hair over the tub. and you are right when i rinse the shampoo out it do run through my hair. but i don't think that's bad. i mean that is why i put the conditioner in the length before so it's protected from the shampoo running through it. i think it's working pretty good.
also allandra, can you please tell me the best detangling conditioner that you have used so far? thanks, nay.

Hi Nay007, /images/graemlins/wave.gif

How do you manage to wash your hair over the tub? Do you bring all of your hair forward when you wash your hair over the tub? I used to do that a long time ago. Since you have a lot of hair, it seems like it would be quite a task. Then again, I remember Jade telling me that she washes her hair the same way. I always wash my hair in the shower. BTW, I won't bother trying to wash my hair in a bun either (would probably be a nightmare). /images/graemlins/nono.gif

For my hair, the best detangling conditioners I've used so far are:
* Elucence Moisture Balancing Conditioner
* Pantene Smooth & Sleek Conditioner

What conditioners are you using now? Have you had much success with them?

I tried this the other night and it didn't work well for me. I think it has something to do with the fact that it was very hard to wash my scalp totally without a lot of the shampoo getting on the actually length. It's hard to describe how i usually shampoo my hair, but it just didn't work. I could try it again, cause I'm sure that I might just get it, but as I always use a moisturising shampoo and always deep condition anyway so i don't really notice the dryness issue with my hair from shampooing too much.

True. I don't think it's bad either. Afterall, the conditioner is there to protect the length of the hair. I'm going to continue doing this. Thanks Nay007. /images/graemlins/up.gif

I do about the same. the only difference is that I use oil instead of the conditioner. My hair comes out so soft, silky and shiny! /images/graemlins/cool.gif

zanna,

what kind of oil do you use for this? regular olive oil?

allandra,

yes i always wash my hair over the tub. i just hate to wash it in the shower. i think when i wash my hair in the shower i would concentrate more on the length than my scalp. i tried it before and didn't like it. i hate to feel the conditioner running over my back when i rinse my hair, especially since i read that if you have acne prone skin the conditioners could cause breakouts and that article said to wash hair over the tub.
i guess i am just used to it. after washing& conditioning i wrap my towel around my hair in the same way, with it still hanging over my head. i don't like wrapping my wet hair in a towel when it is hanging down my back.
but i read on some other hair boards that washing your hair in the shower is better for your hair cause it won't tangle that much /images/graemlins/bath2.gif.
pantene smooth and sleek is very good for my hair. i have not tried any of the elucence products. i want to stop ordering so many products from the internet.
have you tried l'oreal nature's therapy yet?
i want that series sooo bad and i am mad cause i can't get it over here /images/graemlins/wallbash.gif
nay

Nay,
Yes, I use olive oil or a mixture of olive oil, almond oil and jojoba oil. I wash my hair( scalp actually) every 3 or 4 days so the oil protect my hair from the shampoo. My scalp is clean and my hair strong and healthy.
Sincerely
Zanna

No, I haven't tried it. I've seen it at Sally Beauty Supply, but I haven't read much about it.
