ekomba said:Hello my name is ekomba. I m a new member lurker for 1 or 2years. Ever since i joined the board, i had been transitioning last year and i'm freshly natural for the past 4 months. i have thick 4b hair, Im african, dark skinned and my friends laugh at me if i say i want waist lenght natural hair they think i m nuts and tell me i have the wrong hair i m not mixed it will never grow that long not even bra strap. i believed so until i saw this site. my hair which used to be thicker due to overprocessing had thined considerably . yeah back then i did not know any better and would perm the whole head with super extra strength relaxer by myself or at the salon. As soon as i discovered the board, i started taking supplements biotin, msm, vitol hair skin nails(thicken my hair so bad) that you advised surprised my hair grew longer while transitioning. I decided to do the big chop after lurking so much cause anything you advised worked for the most part. i went on excursions to the brooklyn haitian neighborhood get my huile masketi, minoval and just ordered the mtg. Since big shopping i have learn to accept myself more but family think you crazy and ask when you will do your hair. So far it is going good i put braids for the next 3 months then i will start my conditioner washes. But i noticed that all the products that used to work on my permed head dont work anymore since im natural. My hair likes conditioners a lot and refuse anything with alcohol in it else it tends to become a brillo pad and dont like shampoo anymore else its hard too hum i have to make a new regimen what works while i was transitionning dont work either i need extra moisture but im happy my head has never been that thick and i can only keep conrows for 2 weeks because of the new growth did not mean to write a lot but im hopeful i will grow a mean afro and at least i get versatility i could press, wear twists but i found it dries faster in his natural state its not dripping water like when it was permed

Anyways, I'm debating getting highlights, but so afraid of damage that I won't do it!
I go to NY every September for my job, so I'm thinking of letting the ladies at Curve do something with it...I'm enjoying my 'new' hair to the fullest. My progress has been going okay... I just wish my hair would grow faster. I've learned that my natural hair loves water.PittGirl06 said:how are u enjoyting your "new" hair? hows your progress? what have you learned about your natural hair?

I don't obsess anymore about my hair either, I wash when it's dirty or I wanna play in it...I do styles that last...and I've learned how to do puffs (and how to get my hair to tangle less when out). I'm luvin the journey.
