Hair product junkie reloaded!
how are u enjoyting your "new" hair? hows your progress? what have you learned about your natural hair?

It's going well. I love my natural hair but it is sooo finicky sometimes. I've found that there isn't just one product that gives me exactly what I want so I have to mix stuff sometimes depending on the look I'm going for. I haven't gotten comfortable with my length yet to wear it out without a head band but I'm working on that. So it's a learning process, especially as my hair gets longer. I love it though, I wouldn't trade it for anything. :D

Hello my name is ekomba. I m a new member lurker for 1 or 2years. Ever since i joined the board, i had been transitioning last year and i'm freshly natural for the past 4 months. i have thick 4b hair, Im african, dark skinned and my friends laugh at me if i say i want waist lenght natural hair they think i m nuts and tell me i have the wrong hair i m not mixed it will never grow that long not even bra strap. i believed so until i saw this site. my hair which used to be thicker due to overprocessing had thined considerably . yeah back then i did not know any better and would perm the whole head with super extra strength relaxer by myself or at the salon. As soon as i discovered the board, i started taking supplements biotin, msm, vitol hair skin nails(thicken my hair so bad) that you advised surprised my hair grew longer while transitioning. I decided to do the big chop after lurking so much cause anything you advised worked for the most part. i went on excursions to the brooklyn haitian neighborhood get my huile masketi, minoval and just ordered the mtg. Since big shopping i have learn to accept myself more but family think you crazy and ask when you will do your hair. So far it is going good i put braids for the next 3 months then i will start my conditioner washes. But i noticed that all the products that used to work on my permed head dont work anymore since im natural. My hair likes conditioners a lot and refuse anything with alcohol in it else it tends to become a brillo pad and dont like shampoo anymore else its hard too hum i have to make a new regimen what works while i was transitionning dont work either i need extra moisture but im happy my head has never been that thick and i can only keep conrows for 2 weeks because of the new growth did not mean to write a lot but im hopeful i will grow a mean afro and at least i get versatility i could press, wear twists but i found it dries faster in his natural state its not dripping water like when it was permed

Congrats, on being natural!

It's going pretty well. I'm looking forward to the day that I can wear a ponytail comfortably. But my hair is really easy to take care of

Thanks MeccaMedinah, now that i'm starting fresh, without the heat and all the chemicals i'm confident i will grow my hair long it never grew that fast i big shop recently to cut the scab hair i have i think 4 -5 inches of natural hair. I think my best lesson i learn her is to leave the hair alone it grows more when i do less and start with healty hair. So im letting it rest for summer with individuals then i will just cond wash every day or other day i will try the no shampoo and just acv rinses to see what i get

I did the BC 2 months ago and I love my natural hair. I CW every day and it is so carefree. I am looking forward to the day when I can make an afro puff.

I BC'd back in december, so i dunno if I'm still newly natural or not...but I'm answering anyway :) I still have my one strand knots which still drive me crazy BUT I've finally got a routine that I'm comfortable with, products I adore, and healthy healthy hair. I don't obsess anymore about my hair either, I wash when it's dirty or I wanna play in it...I do styles that last...and I've learned how to do puffs (and how to get my hair to tangle less when out). I'm luvin the journey.

I am loving my natural hair. I just let it do it's thing. It's still too short to notice anything significant because I was natural before but maintained this length. I'm anxious to see how my hair will look as the curls get longer.

Im enjoying my new natural hair. It isnt hard to manage like most people think. Im still looking for more styling option at the length Im at now, but I need a few more inches before I can really get jiggy :D

I chopped in December after transitioning almost 18 months. It's going well, but I'm in a bit of a styling rut b/c I'm just wearing my pony puff everyday. It's grown a lot, so it's turning into more of a ponytail than a puff, but I need a style change soon. I'm still not quite comfy wearing it out, but I hope to overcome that fear by the end of the summer! Anyways, I'm debating getting highlights, but so afraid of damage that I won't do it! :look: I go to NY every September for my job, so I'm thinking of letting the ladies at Curve do something with it...

I'm enjoying my 'new' hair to the fullest. My progress has been going okay... I just wish my hair would grow faster. I've learned that my natural hair loves water.

my natural hair loves water too. i tried different products while trying to style my hair and today, its behaving since i just used my leave in. no curl activator gel and stuff like that. wayy too much buildup. im loving my natural hair!

I'm not sure if i'm still 'new' or not either. I chopped back in November and things are going so far so good. I went thru the 'in between twa' stage and made it. Anyone who did a really short twa when they B.C'ed knows exactly what i'm talking about. That stage where the twa outgrows the cute sophisticated look but is still too short to do anything else with stylewise. When I chopped I didnt know how to do one single natural hairstyle and now I know how to do cornrows, finger coils, two strand twists, twist outs and a few other styles. I never thought I would be able to cornrow but I can :D.

Shea butter is my best friend and I learned how to PROPERLY pick my hair. I caused alot of problems early on by dragging the pick through my hair. Now I know picks are just for gently lifting the hair. I'm still learning and hopefully in 5 months at my 1 year anniversary I will have 6 inches of nice healthy hair :). -- jainygirl
