:crystalba OK, who predicted she would come out with a book about transitioning to natural hair? Take a bow! :notworthy

Yes,

I will buy the book...I have her other book..imo...there are better books but I will definitely buy her book because her book helped me when I first started on this board...but I also have Carolyn Gray's book...too..but I will get this book because I am curious to know what she has been up to.

I would be interested in buying it - Just to see what her take is on transitioning. I have to give her credit for being the first to inform me about proper hair care. After reading her book and doing more research, it lead me to this wonderful site.

I have to admit, I am a tad envious of you natural beauties...one day, I may just decide to transition.

The more information available, the better. It would be nice actually if she made reference to this site and the many natural heads that have transitioned for additional support.

IMO, this is a good book because when I first joined this site...there were so many products that I got confused on when to use what and how to use what but Carolyn Gray's has step by step instructions on how to use products and when to use products...actually she has week by week steps so you will know exactly what you are doing to your hair and why....this book as well as this site has helped me grow my hair and keep the length not to mention my hair is very healthy...now some people say that the information in this book is common sense and that may be true but for some of us (me)... did not have a clue on how to take care of our hair....because when I first joined this site, I went and bought everything that someone said was good....but with Carolyn's book...I was able to start a good regimen that really worked for me and the products that she mentions in her book are the products that we basically use on here except for ntm, garnier fructis, rusk smoother...those are newer things since her book was written which was in 2003 but she uses everything we use today...keracare, cpr, motions, con, aubrey organics...etc, you know...but anyway the book can be purchased on amazon.com....The name of the book is "The Black Woman's Guide to Beautiful Healthier Hair in 6 Weeks".

It comes out in September....

Sooo, anyone plan on buying it?

I started out with her method and I certainly appreciate that she was a pioneer in hair care. However I have learned so much more on the hair care boards.

I suspect her book will probably include some of the wonderful tips we already know and have already been posted on the board.

By the way your hair is very is lovely.

I may buy the book, but at this time I really don't know. I feel as though she could have come up with a better title for the book. The title alone just makes me feel as though I will have some kind of objection for her reason to transition, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I already have an opinion about HER reason for transitioning...

$$$$$$$

Is the book specifically about transitioning.... or is it another book about overall black hair care, including sections on transitioning? If the latter, I will probably buy..... or, at the very least, thumb thru it at B&N and make a decision about buying.

*rolls eyes* she spent years and years talking how you can have long relaxed hair and now she's transistioning. I feel stupid for buying her book in the first place. Seems so obvious now she's just trying to separate fools (incl. me) from their money. But she wouldn't get to do it twice.

Thanks so much for the review. I will check it out.

If it was not for her, I would not have started this quest. I remember when I 1st started 2 years ago, and found out from her website, that you can wash your hair more than once a week. ......

I totally agree..I will admit though that if it was not for her book I would not have found this site because after reading her book I did not agree with some things she says in her book so I started searching on the net and found LHCF. She does not go into enough detail in her book for me.

Yeah, I wonder about this. It bothers me that she blames thinning edges on chemical relaxers in her title. This is obviously a problem with many w/relaxed hair (and natural hair as well), but there are so many other contributors to thinning edges, like tight ponytails, tight braids, general styling stress put on hair, health problems, etc. Relaxers aren't the only reason that edges thin, and her title seems to correlate the two, ignoring other factors. Maybe there is more to the book than the title reveals, though. Her first book was helpful to me, but I may pass on this one until the day I decide to transition--or browse through it if it will be in the bookstores. I'm curious...Then again, I have learned more on LHCF than I have from any book.

What bothers me is not only did she spend years talking about how you can have long healthy relaxed hair, it's the fact that her "transitioning" book is based of off the idea of relaxers causing damage...

Like you said.....

She's full of.....

If that wasn't her "selling" point, OR if she pulled her old books off the shelves because of her "new findings" on the damaging effects of relaxers, I could appreciate the existence of this book coming from HER
I guess she figured she couldn't make too much more money off of re-releasing updated editions of the same book....and with the surge of black woman transitioning to natural, what better way to make a buck. I'll give it to her, she's a smart one.

I will probably read it out of curiousity at the B&N like someone else said or the library because I do want to see what she has to say.

Dont she dare contribute her age as a factor to her hair thinning  Yeah that lady is full of ballllonnnneyyyy...not bologna, but baloney :yep:

Hmm, I dont know about Ms Cathy. I was browsing on her site, and I noticed that she answered some people kind of rudely. Dunno, thats just my opinion.:ohwell: And another thing, she acts as if you can ONLY use her products to achieve long healthy hair.

i noticed that too!!!! she seems to have an arrogant attitude. i met her at a trade show in 2004 and her hair just looked o.k......... yes, her hair was long but her ends looked horrible up close:eek: . She definitely needed a trim.

Like others here, I begun my hair journey from reading Cathy's book and came across this site and have stayed put here  And she was nice enough to answer my emails when I had a question (in the beginning of my hair journey). But I have to agree with Shunta when she says that Cathy comes across like her method is the ONLY way to grow long hair. The minute I saw this board and all the beautiful heads of hair here, I realized that this wasn't true, and figured the ladies here have a lot more vaulable information to add than Cathy's book. :yep:
