New and in need of Help

I think you should do a search for 'transitioning', 'transitioners', 'stretching', 'stretch'.. etc.

I am just over 13 weeks into my transition but I am used to stretching between relaxers. I can't help you build a regimen because I'd just tell you to do exactly what I do, lol.

Search for threads with the information you need, checkout people's fotkis and slowly build from that.

1. Wash at least once a week
2. DC at least once a week - get your protein/moisture balance right especially as you will have 2 textures to work with.
2. Try not to comb your hair dry, if you have to, do it zero-2ce between washes.
3. Detangle hair when wet and saturated with conditioner
4. Moisturise daily

Umm.... I think you should do searches, you can check out my fotki if you'd like...

:welcome: & :congrats:on choosing to transition. Your hair is very beautiful.

I agree with MummysGirl advice. There are threads already out there regarding transitioning and there's a Transition Challenge already in progress for this year. Check out the Challenges Sticky and you'll see the hyper-link.

Regarding a regimen. I would like to add to the previous advice you already received to check your porosity. It's very important that you maintain proper porosity (keep your cuticles) closed to maintain moisture.

This forum is full of wonderful advice. Some of it will apply to you and some of it won't. It's very important to have very clear objectives about what you want to achieve with your hair then stay in your lane. It's so easy to get distracted on this site.

Even though you think you don't have a regimen you probably do. It may be, do what ever I feel like doing. That's okay. So I also recommend starting a hair journal. Some people use a blog as their journal and me (I'm old fashion) I have a pretty journal book and write every thing down. Begin your hair journal with what you want to accomplish with your hair, what the current condition of your hair is, what is it you like about your hair and what is it you don't like about your hair. And don't forget to add what is it you currently do to your hair and what your staple hair products are. A hair journal may seem like a lot of work but please trust me when I say it's invaluable. If you have a setback, your journal will help you determine what happened. If you have a success, again, your journal will help you determine what you did right so you can keep doing it.

Lastly, if you make a change to what you do to your hair, make only one change at a time. That way you'll know what works and what doesn't.

I transitioned for 8 months and didn't have any more breakage than normal. I kept my hair straight for a while then started doing braidouts. I'm pretty sure I washed once a week. Don't remember if I dc'd every week but I probably did because I don't remember using regular conditioners when I relaxed.

Good luck

I agree with what she said. She's given you some great advice. You can definitely transition successfully and are in a great place to get help and advice. I normally don't recommend that many products to people, because everyone's hair is different and things my hair may love may not agree with you. But if you want to see what products I use you out of curiosity you can check out the products album of my fotki: http://public.fotki.com/semora/products-i-use-/

But I do think that above all good techniques will help you tremendously. MG has already laid out some really great basic advice. To that I would add to be sure to protect your hair at night by sleeping with a silk or satin scarf or bonnet. You want to avoid using cotton as that will just suck moisture out of your hair.

Also, sealing the moisture in your hair with a nice oil (like coconut or jojoba oil) can help keep you hair from becoming dry and breaking. You want to be sure to put the oil on your hair after you've put on your leave-in moisturizer (oil only seals in moisture already on the hair). Another product you can use (which has a lot of great oils in it) is Optimum Oil Therapy Hair & Scalp Quencher (from Walmart, Target, etc.).

But most of all: Welcome to LHCF!!!!!! We're glad you found your way here and joined us. :)

P.S.
I enjoyed your fotki pictures.

Thank you all for your advice :) So today I went out and purchased some new things as I am trying to put together my reg. Some of these things I've always used and some I am deciding to try. I want to be realistic with my reg so that I know I will keep up with it. So here it goes.
Every week
1st wash: Pre poo with oils and wash with Body Care Shampoo and Condition with Motions Conditioner
2nd wash: Co wash with Creme of Nature Detangling Conditioning Shampoo ( i love this stuff)
One a month: Clarify with Pantene Pro V Clarifying Shampoo and Deep Condition
Daily: Moisturize with Shea Butter and Razac Hair Oil
Diet: Drink more water, take Chlorella starting at 3 grams a week and if no problems I'll go progressively to 9 grams per week.

I don't really know what to do with my hair during this time. Should I just ponytail it ? or should I flat iron it? What is the best way to do my hair to avoid breakage?

I am so excited!!!....I even got my youngest sister to join in. So she's at home coming up with a reg for her hair. My mom is all natural but doesn't know what to do so she keeps braiding it up. I am hoping to learn some things here that will help her too.

Oh yes and thank you all for your warm welcome...I love this site!!!

ok here I go working towards my natural hair......discipline discipline discipline lol
