Never will I ever again! (long sorry)

I understand this was hard for you, but take comfort in the fact that some people are just ignorant. Even Oprah and Dr. Condoleeza Rice have been subjected to this type of treatment (and remember both of them are rolling in money, so I don't think your lack of a Pathfinder would have changed anything). When both of these women were treated badly, they politely reminded the shop clerk there was a reason that they (the clerk) were on the "other" side of the counter. Avoiding the conflict only allows them to think their behavior is correct. Politely ask for a manager and, again, politely explain that you felt you received poor customer service from the two ladies in front of you. If one of them replies she "is the manager" then ask for her boss. Everyone has a boss. Letting them know you felt you received bad service and you have money to spend to will quietly confront their discrimination, but still allow you to keep your dignity. If you're going to buy those products from Ulta anyways, then buy them! Those women aren't directly benefitting from your sales unless they own the store (highly unlikely) or work off direct commission (again, HIGHLY unlikely). Don't allow your day/week/hair plans to be ruined by ignorance. No disrespect intended, but YOU aren't the one working in Ulta...they are (again, there is nothing wrong with working there, I'm just trying to illustrate a point). You are the customer...act like you are a millionairess. Even Bill Gates drives an old Oldsmobile. You can't judge a car or clothes to tell if someone is rich (unless you're just "new money"). I've met many truly rich people in my work and many of them dress bummier than me.

BTW I shop at the Ulta in Indianapolis, and they weren't overly friendly, but not rude, either. I think they are just one of those shops that believe the customers want their products so bad they will submit to any kind of treatment.

The one in Newport News put me on ignore once also. I'm glad you didn't buy anything. I learned from my mother...I will stand and look around for about 2 minutes and if I don't get service I am OUT. That goes for stores, car dealerships, restaurants, everything.

Wow! I have never been to Ulta and do not plan on it. I do not like how people, especially of color, are saying they are being treated by the staff at multiple locations. This is so sad.:nono:

This is silly on Ulta's part. I guess no one told them that African American women are the number one consumers of hair products. :look:

Wow, I found my first Ulta back in December while traveling. I was excited, because I had heard about it here many times. They weren't very friendly, but I wasn't really buying anything at the time either. I was traveling again this week and went back to the same store. I didn't notice any poor treatment. The sales lady came onto the aisle I was on and asked if I needed any help while seemingly restocking something. I asked her a question. She answered and suggested something. I ended up buying a lot of bath and body stuff. It was buy 2, get 2 free, so I got 8 bottles.

OP, I don't blame you. I wouldn't have spent my money there, either.

Wow! I'm sorry to hear about that.
Which ULTA is this? Is this the most recent one they built (off Princess Anne Road)?

I moved to Virginia Beach years ago, but still go back to visit. Coincidentally, I live in NO VA now as well. Every ULTA I've been to, including the one in Va Beach were just...OK. I like them and all, but the customer service there never really knocked my socks off.

I'm glad you complained, though. The company needs to know what's going on in their stores.

Thank you Next time if im in the situation again I will speak up! But I know for a fact it will not be at that ulta! I really hope they get back to me, if not I will def write them weekly until they do! I will not be ignored by that company again!

I actually think you did the best thing by going home and writing a letter. If the staff was "stank"; it's because they have "stank" leadership. And in my assumption, it woud have been likely that the store manager would have just brushed it off. A call from corporate about your letter will not fall on deaf ears. I'm a write a letter type of person; I don't bother myself with people that are not in decision making retail positions. It just elevates my blood pressure and what's the point? I also don't like telling stories multiple times so if it's in writing; it's for all who want it to view.

Good going!

ETA:

I go here and go off or rave on any place that gets on my nerves or provides excellent service... People really get back to you from here; they supposedly go to the heads of the company. I would go and cut and paste your letter and enter it here.

wow thats messed up. i hate goin to places with workers like that. it sounded like you were in MS girl. i'm glad you didn't spend your money in that store.

I live in a very "ritzy" area and I've never had a prob at that Ulta. I love them.

But I agree with Xerxes 100%. You have to speak up right then as well. Good luck with your formal complaint!!
