Neutralizing shampoos give your hair a brown/reddish color??

I REALLY hate how brown my hair is. I know it's a combo of sun and relaxers. I am about to try a rinse, which I was avoiding but I really dont like the brown color.

Do all neutralizing shampoos do this? Or is it just certain ones? Neutrlizing shampoo is essential so I would NEVER consider not using one

Well relaxers can do that. I have heard that ACV rinses can do that too and if that is true than they are both acidic so...

I know that it will lighten your hair somewhat but to go from an off black to straight brown is kinda drastic to me.

So I guess I'll have to keep using rinses.

When I was natural my hair was almost pitch black, not dark brown. Now that I "texlax" (not even a full processed relaxer) my hair is tinted brown and I hate it.

Try Bigen Rinse, you mix it yourself and it's the ONLY rinse that doesn't break my hair off. I know Rinses aren't supposed to be damaging, but I'm one of those people that can't double process my hair, no matter how "light" the chemical is. Bigen is the only thing that is gentle enough on my hair along with Texlaxing.

when I was pressing my hair, it was black as well.

Rinses shouldn't have ammonia or peroxide in them but I did use one in the past that was drying.

I heard Bigen has a lot of PPD. Its permanent right?

I have found that using rosemary in my oils has kept my hair black.

I wonder if this is why my hair has always looked brownish without my black rinses...interesting.

Which book? The original one or the new anti-relaxer one?? I've never read any of her books, but I was thinking about reviewing one for my blog

No-lye relaxer was the culprit in my case. After I switched to lye, I got my brown color back, all the red was gone. Hmmm, maybe it was the neutralizing shampoo for no-lye relaxer?
