Need Twist help

I'm currently trying to twist my hair, but the problem im facing when finishing each twist is that it once finished it gets really loose and forms big fat twists, what could I be doing wrong..

I have some twist bulk hair (for the front) but I was trying with normal braiding hair at the back (for economical reasons) is it possible to twist effectively with normal braiding hair?

eta: I've just tried twisting with the twist hair, and the same thing happens, whilst twisting the hair can look super tight then as soon as I finish it just unravels up... I've even tried burning the ends

Have you tried twisting each section, THEN twisting them together? It's sort of hard to explain, but very easy to do!
