Okay, I started a thread about three weeks ago on how much I loved the NTM Mask and how good it made my hair feel. Well, I used it again about a week or two ago, and it didn't have the same affect. Lately my hair has felt very brittle. It is hard for me to detangle with conditioner in my hair. Granted, I haven't done a deep conditioner under the dryer in a while. But every time I wash or co/wash, I use a shower cap while I shower.

I started using a new leave-in and I wonder if that is the cause of the brittle feeling. I wonder if it is drying my hair out. I haven't done enough research to understand cones and good alcohol from bad alcohol. So, I was wondering if someone could evaluate the ingredients in this leave-in for me. It is Design Line Olive Oil Leave-in and it contains the following ingredients:

Water, Propylene Glycol, Polyquatermium-11, Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Ectract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Olive Oil PEG-7 Esters, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hyroxyethylcellulose, Guar Hyrdoxypropyltrimonium Chloride, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Fragrance (Parfum), Acrylates/PEG-10, Maleate/styrene Copolymer, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparagen, Proylparaben, Blue 1, Red 3, Yellow 5, Green 5

Is that the same Olive Oil leave-in that can be found in Regis salon's too? Is it in a triangle shaped bottle with a black pump? If so, I've used that leave-in before, and I really liked it. It never made my hair dry and brittle, only soft and lucious. From experience, I don't think that the leave-in is the culprit.

Have you tried clarifying your hair? The NTM hair mask has lots and lots of cones, and overtime those cones can build up in your hair and make your hair feel brittle, etc. HTH.

Hey there fellow TSU Alumnus. Actually, yes I am referring to the leave-in by Regis. And, see it started off doing really well in my hair as well. And I clarified the same day that I used the NTM Mask. My hair hasn't been the same since my last shampoo wash. I started another thread about it because I thought it was the PM Tea Tree.

Basically, I clarified with Nexxus Aloe Rid, then I pooed with PM Tea Tree. After that I conditioned with Tea Tree, and I followed that up with a moisturizing conditioner (Nexxus Humetress, PM Instant Moisture, or PM Super Charged Moisture). I don't remember which one. Then I followd that with the NTM Mask with shower cap while I showered. And my hair has felt hard and brittle ever since.

I read something saying that PM Tea Tree is more of a clarifying shampoo. So, at first I thought that using both may have over done it. Then I thought maybe it was the Olive Oil leave-in. And just a second ago, I read an article on Motowngirl saying to lookout for shampoo's with Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, and Sodium Laureth Sulfate. And when I looked at the ingredients of the Tea Tree and Aloe Rid, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate were numbers 2 and 3 on the ingredients list for both. But, they were on all of the shampoo's in my linen closet except for PM Instant Moisture. One of those ingredients were even in Nexxus Therappe. So what does that mean??

I just want to find out what my hair does not like, so I can get rid of it.:( I just co/washed and hair was all over the place, I had no slip with ANY of my conditioners, and that was with a deep conditioning with PM Instant Moisture.

Help!!! I am at a loss!!!

Wow, okay lemme think here for a minute....

Yeah, sulfates can be drying to the hair, but a good moisturizing conditioner should do the trick of adding back moisture. I'm surprised that the Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture didn't leave you with any softness this time. I love that conditioner. The only thing I could really suggest that you do would be to do your normal washing routine again and leave out the Leave-in and see how your hair does. If your hair goes back to normal, then you'd know it might have been the leave-in. Have you normally been washing with 2 shampoos and conditioning with 2 conditioners?

If not, then try only moisturizing with one conditioner and see what happens. I know that Humectress contains mineral oil, which coats the hair shaft. Cones coat the hair shaft too, so the Humectress + NTM Mask could be causing the issue...I'm not sure, though.

On different days, maybe you could try this:
1. Shampoo (1 Shampoo)
2. Condition (1 Conditioner)
3. Regis Leave-in
-------------------
(This one sounds more like your normal routine, but without the leave-in)
1. Shampoo (clarify if need be, and regular shampoo)
2. Condition (with your usual 2 conditioners)
3. No Leave-in

and see what results you get from both days

Oh, sorry. When I saw Memphis as your location, I assumed you had graduated and moved to M..E..M..P..H..I..S ONE TOWN!!!

So you're in Nashville during the year?? I knew that I couldn't possibly be the ONLY person in Nashville on this forum.

And I will try to do something different every time I wash or co/wash to see if I can find the culprit. I just want to find it before all of my hair falls out!!!!

Yeah, I'm in Nashville during the school year, but during the breaks (summer, winter, and all of those itty bitty breaks in between) I'm back home in Memphis. I go back to Nashville next Thursday.
