Hi everyone,

I have relaxed hair (just got it touched up last Sat) and for my B-Day party tomorrow I would like to rock a braid out .

I accidently rocked one about a month ago trying to do my own crochet braids w/ hair that would not latch. This is what happened: On a Fri I went to salon, got a wash n set (reg regiment), did my own cornrows that night and did not put anything in my hair to set them. The following morning I tried to do the crochet, did not work :nono:, so I took my cornrows down. Mind you my hair was dry when I did the cornrows and I did not put any products in my hair during the cornrowing. So the braid out was so cute :yep: for the evening but by the time we got home from the movies (VERY HUMID THAT EVENING) most of the curl was gone but I still had the fullness.

I LOVE Nichi's Shea Butter & Kinky Curly Pudding results (that is what I want! http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=363895 ) but she is a natural and I am not, so I don't know if those products will work for me??? Anyone :whyme:?

So I was thinking maybe using a spray bottle of water and leave in to make my hair damp and then using Proclaim Activator Gel to set the braids and perm rods at the end like Nichi recommends so the ends are curly. Then wrap up in a silky scarf, go to sleep and take out tomorrow morning b4 work. But I have NEVER planned this out, so I dunno :scratchch.

So does anyone have any advice on what products and method I can use on my hair tonight so I have a braid out that will STAY ALL DAY TOMORROW (another 24 hours of humidty is in the NYC forecast) for my B-Day party tomorrow nite?

Oh and btw, MY HAIR DOES NOT HOLD A CURL :crying3:! Like if I curl my hair in the morning with a hot iron and use only heat protectant my hair will fall within 30 mins, waste of time! Even using a hair spray (maybe its the spray I use) after curling it, it will not hold. The only way I have found so far for my hair to keep a curl is if when I go to the salon they put that real wet setting lotion on my hair after a wash/cond, put it in curlers and spend time under the dryer to set it but it makes my hair hard and crunchy. I find that can cause to breakage for me :naughty:. I want/wish for a braid out that can still be soft to the touch or at least look that way BUT HOLD THE CURL. Maybe I am asking for too much... :violin:

It's my Birthday Weekend and the last thing I want to do is stress over my hair, so ANY advice you could share about making this work would be fabulous of you!

Thank you in advance!

Cowash (either Aussie Moist, Herbal Essences or Suave Humectant)
Leave In - Giovanni Direct Leave In
Airdry till about 80% dry
Apply Lustrasilk shea butter cholestrol to each section before braiding... using rollers or flexirods on the ends.

Tie scarf and keep braids in overnight.
Take out with shea butter mix on my fingers (keep dipping fingers into it)
Shake out roots with fingers and...

Thank you for the advice! :yep:

I was hoping for a regiment that didn't involve washing or cowashing b/c my hair can take awhile to dry and by the time I get home, get ready to start doing this, I will be up past midnight if I get my hair that wet and I don't have a blow dryer or dryer bonnet :ohwell:.

I really don't want to be exhausted at my own b-day party over a hairstyle...

Any more suggestions ladies??? :drunk:

^^^^You don't necessarily have to wash first (although I like to for bigger, fluffier results). You can get good results from dry hair also. I like to use a soft mousse (I  Dove Body & Lift) and a creamy water based leave-in or moisturizer (or any conditioner). I put about a quarter size amount of condish or creamy stuff on each section along with a squirt of mousse, and twist/braid. I do 6 flat twists from from hairline to nape. Once the product has sunk in/dried, just untwist and fluff.

Hope this helps! Good luck with ur style and happy b day!!

ETA: after untwisting, I like to run a dab of serum (Organix Vanilla Silk or Coconut Milk serum) over the hair for shine.
