Hello ladies,

I'll get straight to the point...I just took out 2-3 month old box braids. I didn't immediately wash my hair bcuz I felt like I was missing a step. I tried going to the site Nonie recommended in previous posts but its no longer available. Someone please tell me what you'd recommend before I wash that'll help me get my hair back on the health hair journey.

While in braids, I washed maybe twice and sprayed African Royale on my hair all the time. I workout 3-4 times a week and only had the edges redone once. I want to retain the growth but I know there may be some breakage as I haven't combed my hair in months.

Ladies, PLEASE help!!

TIA

I heard cowboy magic is a really good detangler. Also if you haven't washed in a while I would go literally each individual braid at a time with whichever detangler you decide and start with finger detangling and separating before you take a comb to it

I would suggest using oil and a slippery conditioner to THOROUGHLY detangle before letting water or shampoo touch your hair. It may be a long and tedious process but it will allow you to retain your growth versus wetting it and having the hair matt and tangle.

ETA: and work in sections. Once one section is detangled, clip it, bantu knot it, or twist it and then go on to the next section.

Good luck!

I would dilute a cheapie condish and spray it on a small section, work it in by hand, (esp if u hav dirt knots) spray again to rewet and then detangle gently. Basicly just make sure its soft and moist to reduce brkage

Dont be alarmd by the amt of hair u see in the comb as u hav months of shed hairs to remove

Good luck

Work in very small sections with just your fingers, pulling out shed hair and gently undoing any knots or tangles. You should use any detangler you're used to, just don't drench your hair until done finger detangling.

After taking down senegalese twists:

1) Part hair down the middle
2) Make 3 sections on each side, so there are 6 total on the entire head
3) Warm some coconut oil and apply to each section.
4) Finger detangle and remove as many shed hairs as I can.

Take your time. I normally spend 10 minutes on each section and put it in a bantu knot as I go. I'm usually tired after so I just allow the coconut oil to marinate overnight and go back in with a wide tooth comb the next day. (Applying more coconut oil as needed)

1) Wash each section
2) Light protein treatment such as Aphogee 2 minute keratin conditioner
3) Deep condition with a moisturizing conditioner with steam

2 weeks or so later, I'll go back and clarify then do a hard protein treatment like Aphogee 2 step. i wait to do a hard core treatment to let me hair get back into the swing of being out of the braids. hTH

Gently remove shed hair with a wide tooth comb before you apply anything wet to your hair. Wet hair after braids = matting. No bueno. Take your time detangling. Afterwards use a moisturizing shampoo and deep condition with protein for strength. If its a heavy protein follow it with a moisturizing dc

Thanks for all your advice ladies.

So I'm going to section my hair, use my mane & tail detangle spray, then use shea butter deep treatment masque to moisturize for about 1 hour, follow up with a good deep wash with Clear scalp (never tried this before so I'm not sure if its high in protein or not) then end with a good deep condition. God please don't let me lose any of my precious hair!!!

Thanks again for all your advice!

Make sure when you take down each braid you comb really good to detangle the hair and make sure the comb go to the end of your hair without any problems. I remember when I didn't comb each well and it was a tangle mess.. I have box braids in now I they aren't so small so it shouldn't be that bad to detangle. Make sure you deep condition good as well...

I AGREE with all of this! I ended up losing 5+" of hair because my hair wasn't detangled well after removing my box braids 2 yrs ago. I went from MBL to barely below SL after I finally got all of the matts and knots out. :nono: I'm STILL trying to recover. :nono::perplexed:ohwell:

GIRL......do not put any water on that hair.

Use OIL to detangle

I experienced this aswell ,I had to cut inches off my left side and let it grow out .

Op, I'm just piggy backing on what others have previously stated.

Use EVCO drenched fingers to detangle section by section. When your done follow up with a seamless rake to remove all shedded hair. Take your time watch some movies or listen to music.

DON'T WET YOUR HAIR, UNTIL IT'S FULLY DETANGLED!

EVCO is your BFF! :yep:
