i had a bad experience of breakage immediately after a 2nd phytorelaxer. i tried a protein treatment and it seemed to get worse. i had originally relaxed on natural hair 3 weeks after coming out of braids with phyto and that worked fine even with the aphoghee treatment 2 weeks later. i went to the salon and had it done again 10 weeks later and had massive breakage. i tried aphoghee again but it didn't help. i have weak fine 4b hair and i did not relax fully. i wonder if she overlapped or if i am sensitive to protein and i used aphoghee too soon. this next time would you suggest relaxing fully and putting protein on before the relaxer and then just doing deep moisturizers? i have taken a break with a weave and it has been 4 months since my last relaxer. i am just so scared. i live in france and bought a lot of products when i was in the us. dudleys hair reconstructor, joico k-pac etc. i am not sure which to use. any suggestions. maybe i should protein before, fully relax, deep moisturize and then henna and continue to deep moisturize 2x per week. but it's also hard to find a deep moisturizer with no protein. any advice? i just don't want my hard earned growth to break again. thank you so much in advance for any help. i am jsut so confused and scared to damage my hair again. (p.s. i can't stay natural. it takes too much work and my hair is so tight and kinky that i can only wear a short afro and i am tired of those)

Hi Kimbaparis

Congrats on stretching for 4 months! I would definitely recommend using a protein treatment at least a week before you relax again.

I'm not quite sure why you're experiencing breakage, but it may have been overlapping. I wouldn't recommend fully relaxing (I'm assuming you mean the length) until you try some other things. How do you usually style your hair?

I'm sorry you are experiencing breakage. Try doing more deep conditioning, maybe everytime you shampoo for a while.

Hi Kimba! I'm pretty new to this hair journey myself. I'm also 4a/b and I used Phyto II for my last 2 relaxer cycles. I believe phyto is heavy on protein content so I had to counteract that immediately after relaxing with a long session of moiturizing deep conditioning with heat. However, I don't have a problem with breakage I think because I tend to avoid too much protein in general as my hair doesn't really need it. Perhaps you should opt for more moisturizing/deep conditioning with heat for a while and lay off strong protein in an attempt to halt the breakage.

I also don't think a moisturizing conditioner with a little protein content will hurt though.

FYI, after my last t/u (12/18) I used a mixture of 1/2 pack of Silk Elements moisturizing conditioner, 1 tbsp alma oil, 2 tbsp Mizani hydrofuse and 2 tbps Elucence MB condish. It worked wonders and my hair felt like extremely soft.

Maybe one the more experienced members will chime in and help out.

Good luck and hang in there!!
