Honestly, for grays, I'd probably suggest a demi-permanent; it's less damaging that permanent and much longer lasting than semi permanent/rinses. There are tons of brands that make demi-permanent formulas in a whole range of colors as well.

I was successful with using the following on my mother's relaxed gray hair: 3 oz. bottle of Clairol Professional Beautiful Collection Semi-Permanent Hair Color Advanced Gray Solution in the Midnight Black Color with a 2 mL (0.068 oz.) packet of Ardell Gray Magic added to the entire bottle of hair color and shaken well. After shampooing and deep conditioning her hair, I applied the color, covered her hair with a plastic cap, and allowed it to process for 30 minutes under the dryer on medium heat. Then, I rinsed it out with cool water. I bought both items from Sally's Beauty Supply.

Tonight I just coloured my mother's fray hair using a demi permanent colour from Clairol. My mother bought it at sallys. She has stubborn greys. This is the first product that was able to cover them. The demi-permanent was ammonia free as well. HTH!

I used Clariol beautiful textures, jet black & its semi perm. The key is to use it right after you relax your hair. If you are using semi perm; they are usually safe to use the same day as the relaxer, but make sure you look at the bottle.

I recently dyed the front of my hair, spices red by creame of natures & I really like the brand.

I love ion demi permanent you use 10 developer but its super gentle and long lasting. And I agree about using right after you relax because the cuticle is wide open.
