I just don't understand why I can't get my hair to do the right thing. Here's my problem:

I have been recooperating from a very bad experience with my beautician (over processing) and I was compounding it with too much protein

. Anyway I finally found this web site about four months ago and I have totally changed how I style my hair.

I have taken out all heat. I roller set only. I use kerakare humectant conditioner, olive oil and I deep conditon with a reconstructing conditioner once a week with conditioning washes once to twice a week. I do protein treatments sparingly once to twice a month at most depending on how much my hair is popping. I relax my own hair with affirm regular about every 6 to 8 weeks. I neutralize for about ten to 15 minutes total and follow the instructions to the letter. I do over lap a little bit when I relax (nothing like my beautician did) but I protect my old growth!

So, now I have been taking care of my hair with this new regimen for about four to five months and I have noticed improvements which I appreciate (thanks for all the advice ladies

) But my problem is that I am still experiencing breakage (most commonly when my hair is wet about 10 to 15 strands normally but recently I have noticed about 25 to 30 at least strands - some are shedded hair and some is breakage about fifty fifty) (i know I seem obsessive but I am sure you ladies understand

). Now this morning I noticed about 20 little tips of my hair on my pillow. (I usually sleep with a satin bonnet but I worked all night last night and I had to sleep bonnet-less). I really do not know what I am doing wrong. I am really frustrated and even though I promised my self no cutting until christmas I am really tempted to go for a big chop. I really do not want to do this because I experienced a lot of depression after I cut a significant amout of hair the last time (about four months ago). I am looking for any advice from anyone who has experienced this in the past or are currenly experiencing this and has found something that works.

Is it supposed to be this difficult to manage my hair? Do some people just not tolerate a relaxer? Am I doing something drastically wrong? I really would appreciate some help! Sorry for the long line but I am truly frustrated

thanks for all advice in advance
God bless

What do you do for daily moisture? Also what do you do to your hair before you put it under the bonnet for the night?

asha thanks for replying.
Well, whenever I wash my hair I use a little water down kerakare as a leave in and spray on some dudley's setting lotion. I also add just a little olive oil while wet to seal in the moisture. Hope this helps. Have you experienced this type of breakage before?
Once again thanks for responding!

Oh yeah, as for daily moisturizer. I do not use a daily moisturizer. I only moisturize when I wash twice to three times per week. Do you think it would benefit me to use a daily moisturizer. What type to you or anyone else recommend?
all replys appreciated!

I think you should use a daily moisturizer. How do you wear your hair normally on a daily basis? Is it down? I use S-curl followed with a coating of light oil like Profectiv's Long Hair serum, then I put my hair up with the ends protected. I'm always amazed at people who self relax, because I don't know how you can see your new growth on the top and back of your head to prevent overlapping the perm. Do you have at least an inch of new growth before you relax again? This helps with the overlap and prevents damage. It could be that your hair is really dry and needs to be moisturized more frequently.

did you cut off the overprocessed hair? (when your hairdresser overprocessed it) because this hair is damaged and will continue to shed/break until you cut it off. my hair is overprocessed, but i am gradually trimming it off, so i expect shedding for awhile until i can get rid of all the overprocessed parts. hth
