So long story short, I went to a salon that apparently was more concerned with getting my money instead of the health of my hair. After a relaxer and DC, I unwrap my hair the next day to see that I had a ton of breakage in the back and around the crown of my hair, even a bit in at the top middle section of my hair...:nono: As much as I wanna break down crying, I'm really determined to nurse my hair back to health and get those area's that are now short and stubby to grow back again.

Any tips, products, advice, etc. on helping me to make this possible would be really appreciated. Thanks ladies.

Deep conditioning is imperative right now. Join the Deep Conditioning Challenge and dc at least twice a week. Also use a mild reconstructor weekly like Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Treatment, Millennia Mud Mask or Tigi Dumb Blonde.
No more direct heat until your hair is nursed back to health
It will take some work and consistency, but the TLC will definitely be worth it :yep:

Wash your hair with a neutralizing shampoo ASAP! (Then follow the excellent advice given by Tiffers.)

^^ tiffers has given great advice. I would like to add that you should seriously think about self-relaxing/texlaxing.

IA: with both Ladies. I would re-neutralize ASAP. ASAP I would DC, and keep it moisturized.

ASAP I will also do a mid/light protein. Baby it, Baby it, Baby it. I recently lost 90% of my Hair to Salon Overprocessing and Improper Neutralization. I'm there. I'm feeling you.

I would also keep my heat to a minimum and very little manipulation.

I'll definitely gonna get on that DC challenge asap; thank you! What things can I do with my hair when its time for me to style it? I know roller setting isnt necessarily direct heat, but I'm incredibly roller-set challenged...I was thinking of trying flexi rods or ponytail roller sets but I have no clues on how to do those either.:perplexed

Flexi rods and bantu knots would be good! If you have the money for it, definitely get Macherie's rollersetting dvd. I was hopeless before watching it, it's truly wonderful :yep:
Check out this thread for tutorials on lots of protective and low mani styles :)

Thanks Tiffers! And thank you ladies for your input as well! There is hope....

Keep a Watchful Eye on Your Situation. It will be okay. Hopefully,You caught it in time, Yourself and did not leave up to a Careless Stylist to tell you a bunch of Mess.:nono:

At the time I went through my "situation" I didn't know anything about my hair or anything about LHCF. So, you are way ahead of the game.

I'm hoping I caught it in time...so far, I did a protein treatment and DC'ing, and I'm going to try the moisturizing and low manipulation. It's still tough because when I was washing my hair there was still a lot of fall out and still is even when my hair is dry...It's seriously breaking my heart to see this. I've always been told that I have good hair.:ohwell:

All hair is good hair, and even the healthiest hair can be damaged. I know it sucks right now, but you have the tools to fix it so at least you know it'll turn around. Also, try to remember what went wrong so that it doesn't happen again.

*sigh* Finally broke down and cried today. I just want the hair to stop breaking and though it seems like there's less, its just not less enough to give me hope. I bought some Biotin, have a bunch of moisturizing DC's and Aphogee's 2 min, which I'll use on a weekly basis. I also invested in some moisturizers that I can use daily.

I have never EVER had breakage like this...today my mom gasped and touched my hair and nearly screamed 'WHERE IS YOUR HAIR?!'...that's how much of a setback this is...:ohwell:

One question Tiffers; how often do you wet bun/use HS 14 in 1 to wet bun; I've heard that too much can cause build up/flakies or something like that.

Thanks again to everyone who has given me advice and motivation to get through this. It's appreciated, you have no idea. :-)

^^^^^You got to quit stressing about it. I know, it is easier said than done. Trust Me. I know. Been there. Done That.:ohwell:

It doesn't sound like you used a Hard Core Protein Treatment on it to try to stop the breakage. I know you said you did the Aphogee 2 minute. But what about a Harder Core Protein Treatment.

I have Nexxus Emergencee. Although alot of Ladies swear by: The Apoghee 2 Step, Ultra Sheen Dou-Tex, Treasures Perfect Blend, Motions CPR, Dudley's DRC and there are others. (I've haven't used any of these) But I wouldn't hesitate to use them if my Breakage was continuing. Egg & Mayo. Something.:ohwell:

If you have re-neutralized, And since you seem like you've incorporated alot of Moisturizers, I would go Straight Up Hard Core Protein to see if that would stop it. HTH

GO TO A NEW SALON!!!!! Or better yet do it yourself!:yep:

I have a tutorial on how I bun with 14 in 1 in my album. I would link directly to it, but I'm being lazy :lachen:

I never got build up or flakes because I always wash at least once a week, 99.2% of the time I wash twice a week. I also clarify monthly, so buildup has never been a problem.

Have you tried clarifying or chelating yet? How often are you deep conditioning? What do you use to dc? Do you dc under a dryer? How long do you dc? Does your hair tangle as well?

If after chelating/clarifying, using protein, dc'ing with moisture and upping your moisturizing game, you're STILL having horrible breakage, I'd recommend going to get your iron and thyroid levels checked. Both can cause horrible breakage and shedding. I lost a LOT of hair because of my thyroid :nono:

Thanks ladies. =]

Tiffers: No need to include the link; I saw it, which was why I asked...I'm interested in trying that.

In March, I had a doc appt for a check up and she said all was good (thyroid, iron, etc).

I clarify/chelate 1x a month...I have a ton of DC's (I'm a horrible PJ) so I've tried:

Aveda DR, Aveda Color Conserve, Silicon Mix, Alter Ego Wheat Germ, Alter Ego Coconut Reconstructor, Miss Keys 10 in 1, Salerm Midollo, L'Occitane Repairing Mask, Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask, Joico K-Pak, Joico Moisture Recover Treatment Lotion, Aphogee 2 min, Nexxus Emergencee, Terax Crema... Most of them except for the Aveda's, the Salerm's, the Joico's and the Aphogee I've used more than once.

I wash my hair once a week so I DC once a week. I sit under my hooded dryer for 15-20 mins; I'll admit on days when I must be quick and I'm a wee bit lazy, I'll do 10 minutes.

My hair doesnt tangle often unless something went wrong with the poo or DC...if I have a nice, moisturizing DC and leave-in, detangling is fine for me.
