I'm natural and leave conditioner in my hair and use gel. Do I need to shampoo hair before coloring or can I color dirty hair? (hair with products in it)

I used the same products in my hair when I was natural (now relaxed), and I would suggest a thorough shampoo a day or two before applying color (whether the color is henna permanent color, semi/demi-permanent, or traditional ammonia or peroxide based color).

Your color will process faster and more evenly on clean, residue-free hair.

Phew! I thought this was about sex LMAO ahaha OP go to off topic and do a search on coloring and you'll see what I'm talking about

I dye my hair when it's dirty. The directions on the bottle always say to dye on non shampoo'd hair so I don't really question it.

Unless the build up is really heavy, I color dirty hair. I would only consider it heavy for me if I used something like unpetroleum jelly or maybe a really heavy butter.

Thanks for all of your help ladies!!! Boston Maria I didn't even think about my title LMAO!!!!
