I called Trade Secret to ask them what relaxer they used and they told me affirm, which is what I was looking for. I told them I would like to come in for a consultation one day. She said the woman that does the relaxers will be there today, thursday, and friday. I'll probably be going friday to talk with this woman. Does anyone have any advice on what to ask her and what to look for to determine whether she's good or not.

I wanted to know the same thing, because I want to start using affirm, but decided that since I dont know any stylists like that I would just let my friend do it, and just go to the BP beauty parlor, for a trim, now I just have t find one place and stick with it.

Trial and error, that's all I can say. I'm a salon hopper because it seems I can never get situated with a stylist. They may seem nice on the phone and stuff, even when they're about to do my hair, but generally it's the way that they style that I tend to have a problem with. I have been steady with one hairdresser in the last two visits, and plan on only seeing her in the future. I've finally found someone I really like. *sniff*

I would say to listen very closely to what she has to say. Read between the lines. Does it sound like she knows what she's talking about when she's looking at your hair? i.e If she says u have dry hair and need a moisturizing treatment, is it true? What does she recommend for your problem areas (if there are any)? Know what she's going to do b4 u sit in her chair. Will she listen to u when u say you don't want to go with one (or more) of her recommendations? Is she rushed for time? Does she have time to finger through your hair and tell you what she thinks of it? If she seems like she doesn't have the time to do a real consultation, then steer clear. Maybe you could sit and watch her do a head or two or three--see how she works.
HTH. Good luck on your consultation & good luck on finding a good stylist.
