I have always had really thick hair(so I thoght it could not be damaged). A few years ago ,I kept my hair cut really short. Because my hair was cut short I did not take care of it. I would relaxed, color, and streak every other week. All of the chemicals made me aquire a HUGE bald spot at the top of my head. My scalp was very, very red, sore and burnt. I am still trying to recover from my past abuse

. My scalp is slowly turning to its natural color (after 2 years), and I am get peach fuzz in that area. Is there any special way I can care for this area of my hair

? The hair is still really short compared to the rest of my hair and it tends to be drier. This was a very tramatic experience for me

. I can remeber going to salons after it happened and the Hairdressers would be like "Oh my God what happened?" and every person in the salon would surround my head with their "OMG's" and "poor babys". One hairdresser told my to put some olive oil on it and have someone to pray over the spot, because there was nothing she could do lol! I am open to all suggestions on extra treatments.

Wow-you relaxed and colored every other week?!!!

Have you gone to a dermatologist to find out the extent of the damage to your scalp? It must still be somewhat healthy if you are getting some peach fuzz. How long have you had this bald spot? And when did the peach fuzz start growing in? If the scalp is still healthy why don't you try taking some of the MSM the other ladies on here take-they say that it makes your hair grow in with a better texture and it may speed up your hair growth.

My prayers definitely go out to you and I hope that you are able to spring back from the damage. What is definitely most important is that you stopped and are looking for steps to healthier hair. Good luck!!!

Thanks MissM,
Yes every other week ( I had about 3 different colors a month)!!!
It happened almost 2 years ago, and I do mean I was bald. My mother almost cried when she saw my scalp. Hair is finally growing in the damaged area, its just taking sooo long. I going to buy some MSM this week. Do you know how many Mg I should take?

i had a spot like that quite a few years ago. the scary thing was i had NO idea how i got it!! it was during the only other time that i tried to wear my hair up. i pulled it way too tight into a ponytail, but the bald spot wasn't even at the pressure point. it's like one day i felt up there and there was peach fuzz. i was horrified!! this was before i found the boards or anything, and the rest of my hair was only about 3-5" so it didn't take long to grow back. girl, you gave me a flashback! i had forgotten all about that spot!!

anyway, i think that the fact that hair is now there says that all is not lost! i would basically just leave it alone most of the time. since it's shorter and presumably not showing, i wouldn't curl it or anything. the only time i'd mess with that spot would be when i wanted to massage it with Vitamin E oil, and when i wanted to moisturize the ends. how do you normally wear your hair now?

I thought I'd respond on this one. I am going through something similar but not as dramatic as your situation. I had been going to a Dominican Salon in Maryland, and although my hair would feel and look great, it started to thin out really badly. Anyway, all I know is that between Sept. 2003 and October 17, 2003, I lost probably about 1/3 of my hair. I had two peach fuzz patches at the temples, and just above the kitchen area from ear to ear. Cleary I was devastated. After I decided to hold off on relaxing in the salons for a while, and have since self-relaxed twice. After reading the info on this site, I started up my vitamin routine again. I am taking 10,000 mgs. of MSM per day, 10 Mgs (10,000 mcgs) of Biotin per day, B-complex supplement, and Vitamin (Gamma form sold only through HSN). I am also using the SUrge product that is talked about a lot on these boards. So far the results have been remarkable. Within three weeks I had 3/4 of an inch of new growth, so much so that I had to relax earlier. In your situation I think I would hold off on the Surge untill your scalp examined to see if the area is too sensetive. but the MSM and the Biotin should definitely work for you. You may want to start with lower dosages, because it is common for higher dosages of MSm to cause tingling sensations on the scalp, they are not painful, but definitely noticeable. I know this is a long reply, but hopefully it helps.
