Ladies, I would love to get all you natural haired experts in a room and pick your brain. Since I can't do that can you come in here and give some products recommendations for transtioning and naptural hair? There is so many products out there and I feel better hearing from legit sources than relying on savvy advertising claims. Thanks!

I like several different product lines: Myhoneychild, Akiva, Asha's,Oyin. I like Myhoneychild Jamaica Islands Shampoo, Honey Nut shampoo and conditioner, Honey Hair Soy Milk. I like Akiva Secret Potion, Hair Cream, Hair Milk, Hair Jam,Shea Hair Smoothie, Fiwi Oil and Pomade. I like Asha's Heavenly Hair Pudding, Sunkissed Pomade,Coco de Leche,Silk Rose Leave-In. I like Oyin Whipped Pudding, Shine and Define, Honey Hemp Conditioner. I think that it would be beneficial to order sample packs from different product lines to find out what works best for you.

All I really need is shampoo, conditioner, honey, oil, gel, and a moisturizing leave in (optional).

My favs are:
shampoo- Elucence Moisturizing
wash and go conditioner- St Ives Rejuvenating
deep conditioner- anything with honey and oil added to it
oil- monoi coconut oils (smell heavenly!), jojoba oil, meadowfoam oil
growth treatments- rosemary spritz (homemade), aloe vera gel rub, nioxin follicle booster, emu oil
gel- proclaim activator gel (smells good, get a whole lot for $2 or $3)

No product advice because I didn't transition I did the big chop. Less is more in any case.

Shampoo: CON detangling conditioning shampoo/ultra moisturizing formula (green label)(staple) and Elasta QP Creme conditioning shampoo (on occasion)
Conditioners: VO5 conditioners, especially Tangerine Tickle and free me freesia. Just tried Dove Intense Moisture conditioner today and I loved it!
Deep Conditioner: Any conditioner with warm evoo added then where plastic cap anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours.
Leave ins: S-Curl No Drip Activator/Moisturizer, ORS Shea Butter "Softening" Hair and Scalp Lotion.
Detangler: Just for Me Detangler
Definition/edges: Motions at home Shine Enhancing Pomade and Oyin Shine & Define Styling Serum

Comb in sections, try to be gentle, my natural hair loves braids:yep: .
HTH:)

I don't really use styling products on a regular basis anymore, but if I should need them I would use:

*gel - Proclaim aloe gel
*setting lotion - Isoplus Wrap Lotion (great for rollersets)

other stuff that I loved at one point or another during the transition & first year of being natural that worked very well but I don't use anymore:

*Salon Selectives Molding Putty (not sure if this has been discontined or not but it's great for braiding hair for a braid-out)
*Fantasia IC Ice pomade
*coconut oil is a GREAT heat protectant (also mix it with honey for a great pre-poo treatment),
*Profectiv Breakfree
*Profectiv Megagrowth
*Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey
*Suave Coconut conditioner
*Dark & Lovely Ultra Cholesterol
*Aveda products...I love the Elixir, Rosemary Mint Shampoo, Deep Penetrating Hair Revitalizer, Sap Moss Shampoo, Sap Moss Nourishing Concentrate

How does the molding putty work for braidouts because I just started doing them and by the end of the day it's frizzy. Does the putty help with this and does it give it shine? If so I might need to buy this.

Does the proclaim gel have alcohol and does it leave flakes?

I agree. I'm in the process of trying to condense the products I do have and use less in the future. ;)

it made my braid-outs last for atleast a week before they started to lose definition and it gives great shine. It smells like fresh apples too :) I haven't seen this stuff anywhere lately so that's why I said it might be discontined but I'm not sure.

the proclaim gel is alcohol free and never left me with flakes. smells great too.

Great suggestion. I ordered the Akiva hair sample pack. I also want to try the Oyin sample pack too.

tender, loving care! I love my natural hair! It just seems to fit me well! Plus, when it's hot, I can just do a quick no poo, or run the shower over my hair, and go! It dries eventually!

Since I transitioned using braids there was not much I had to do hair care wise. Now that I have done the big chop these are the products I am currently loving:

Shampoo: Creme of Nature [Ultra Moisturizing]
Conditioner: Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose mixed with unrefined Coconut Oil for conditioner washes.
Gel: Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Hair Tea Soft Hold Gel
Detangler: Qhemet Biologics Olive Cream
Moisturizer: Qhemet Biologics Olive & Honey
Pomade: Qhemet Biologics Herbal Olive

Once I get some money or when someone buys it for me, I want to start using just two products on my hair from www.nasabb.com ... the african black soap (to cleanse) and the unrefined shea butter (to moisturize). Their hair oil sounds interesting too. ;)
