Do you use hair gel or any kind of molding creme?
Say you were going to put ur hair in a bun, what do you use to keep the flyaways from flying away? Does it leave flakes (like that nasty brown gel /images/graemlins/barf.gif ), is it heavy, creamy? Thanks.
Thanks.

I use the Elasta QP Oil recovery but it certainly doesn't keep the fly aways. I just never found a product that would hold with out build-up of some type of hard feeling. The hold on Gels and pomades never last for long either so I'd have to reapply the product everyday say if I was wearing a bun 5x a week.

I use curl activator and gel to slick my hair back. Usually Frizz Buster Gel, Smooth n Shine Gellation or Citre Shine Making Waves gel. I rinse my hair almost every day, so I don't get flakes. The only product that flaked on my hair was Wanakee's Hairline Cream.

i use proclaim crystal ice gel/pomade when i wear a bun and i haven't had any flakes but there is a lime? like smell smell to it that i could do without but it does the job i put hair incense over it and i'm fine. it isn't heavy it has that jiggly feeling when you shake the jar.

I agree, frizz buster and smooth and shine are great. i use that in Deja's afro puff ponytails to slick the hair down. when i want super hold, I will use the ampro "nasty brown gel" LOL. if you use it sparingly with a little water, it doesn't flake. that holds her hair the best. I even use it on my hair as well and it smooths my new growth and holds down the buns and pontails like no other. just don't pile it on.

Now I know I need my butt kicked for holding out on this one /images/graemlins/spank.gif , but S Curl 360 Style hair pomade is EXCELLENT for holding down frizzies! I thought it would be heavy and greasy, but it's not. You just have to be sure to rub it in your hands well before applying b/c it is thick. I use my Ampro Clear Ice gel on wet hair, and then slick some of this stuff on top and I'm good to go all day! I've been using it for over a month now. I don't know why I didn't say something about it earlier... /images/graemlins/sekret.gif

One of my favorites is TiGi BedHead Manipulator. Comes in a blue glass jar. One of my all time favorite products.

It holds your hair like gel and keeps it in place, but it doesn't give you that hard, waxed down look that gel can sometimes give. Doesn't feel hard either. The texture of it is very thick so you have to rub it in the palm of your hands really well before application. I have very, very thick hair and I just love it. Smells like coconut too (my favorite scent). I apply it to dry hair, mostly when I'm wearing a bun.

The salon selectives will work on very thick hair. I don't have thick hair but I recommended iti to my friend who has the thickest hair I've ever seen and it actually calmed her hair down. I also have another friend with very thick hair that it works for. It is very thick like putty and smells like fruit!

im hitting the shop during lunch so i will check all of these out... dang, too bad im not rocking a bun today LOLOL

I use the IC gel with sparkelites. It's just thick enough to do the job without making my hair hard and flakey.

I like the Frizz Ease gel. There is no alcohol and leaves a nice shine and really defines curls and coils. It doesn't leave the hair hard either. my hair isn't thick so I 'm not sure if it works on thick hair. I don't see why not.

CaramelHonee,

Manipulator is NOT cheap. Around 16 dollars a jar. I was given a few samples a while ago and I've been trying soooo hard to find what I did with them. I may have left them at my ex boyfriend's house and I'm not about to call him /images/graemlins/naughty.gif .... but anyway I'd be happy to send you a sample if they reappear.

This is off topic, but I have a ton of Dove shampoo and conditioner samples. More than I can use. If anyone wants some, send me a pm.

deja's hair is pretty thick, you have seen her afro puff, that was a good day! i never have a prob with the stuff I use.

Thanks everybody.
I went out on lunch and forgot the dang list with the hair prods...hahahahahaa
in any event, the only thing i remembered was the smooth and shine gellation which doesn't have alcohol in it /images/graemlins/weird.gif

I use some olive oil and leave in conditioner, or perhaps some shea butter. For me the most important thing is to put a scarf on the front of the hair for about 30 min to prevent flyaways.

/images/graemlins/spank.gif Bad Ayana.

I need to try this stuff out. I've been using Aveda Humectant Pomade for the past few weeks, and although it is excellent, it is also very expensive. I've been looking for a cheaper alternative.

Elasta Mango Butter works well. Another tip I picked up on the site was Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel mixed with a butter (usually avocado for me)... works every time. Also, my staple is Let's Jam (yes, I'm taking it back to 7th grade, but the stuff works /images/graemlins/laugh.gif )!
