How does washing identify the heat damage?

When my hair is wet- the heat damaged portion is almost see through and has a looser curl pattern than my roots. Although I think it varies from person to person.

That is what my hair looked like. Some parts were just straight though.

OP, I don't have heat damage but wanted to ask you:

1. Did you DC before and after straightening your hair?
2. Do you blowdry your wet hair or rollerset before applying the flatiron?

I'm so sorry this happened to you, if it truly is heat damage. I would concentrate on protective styles and staying away from heat for a year. I straighten every 4-6 weeks and have no problem. Maybe the stylist went over certain parts of your hair too much. Maybe she had her flatiron at the highest possible setting.

I've got heat damage in the crown area of my hair. I'm going to condition my hair rather than cut it off. I wear bun 98% of the time, so I am not going to cut it, no point! Twistouts and Braidouts still work but they don't last as long. I'm 1 year into the grow-out process. I will not cut until absolutely necessary! I'm a die hard baby! I do regular trims and won't tollerate split ends and severely damaged, bad looking hair. So, we'll just see how it goes. My goal length is BS. I'll see where I am come end of 09. Best of luck to all those dealing with this.
