How do you keep it nice and round? I want to start letting my daughter have a fro to be easier on her hair but it gets all matted and flat to her head when she sleeps at night. How do ya'll keep a nice moisturized soft fro? She is only 2. I know this might belong in the Children's hair section but I feel as though I can get a faster answer over here from real naturals. So can you help a sista out? No offense to the children's board I just think I can get faster answer over here.

I never sleep in my fro. I usually lightly braid or twist it up at night and take out and finger comb in the morning. There is no way to keep it perfectly round and fluffy if youre sleeping on it.

I know that but in the morning her hair is matted down and hard to get it to shape right. I will try braiding it thhough. Finallyfree do you have a link?

You can't sleep on it loose, period. Three cornrows/flat twists would be good to sleep on, or the like.

Sleeping on a loose fro is asking for disaster. Braid her hair up at night, just a few braids (or twists), and then finger style it in the morning after moisturizing. When I wear my fro, I like to gently pick the ends just to bring out more shape.

Have you tried using an afro pick? That's how my DH does it. I tried once, but I ended up with a 10 inch high afro, scary stuff LOL

lol i lost my pick but will be getting a new one today. thanks for the responses. i was trying not to have to do her hair in the morning but i guess with an afro u have too.

I'm rocking my 18 month old fro today :) I NEVER aspire to having perfectly round hair...it's pointless because my multi-textured hair flops wherever & whenever it pleases. Personally I love a wild carefree fro...Fat, sloppy, well moisturized night braids make a lovely morning afro. A pick is nice but not necessary, fingercombing works great too!

Ditto. I twist it into bantu knot type things secure with bobby pins and pick/finger comb it in the morning.

I also just started wearing hard rollers at night after I moisturize and seal the ends. Then I pick that out in the morning. It makes a nice a fluffy fro.
I got the idea from curlynikki blog (member here). I think it will help with less tangley ends and hopefully less trims.

I try to co wash each morning which brings the hair from its morning matted state. My morning co wash is main & tail deep conditioner with Jamaican Mango & Lime protein conditioner & every 3 or so washes I deep condition with le kair cholesterol. After I get out I put on a handful of mtg and just let it flow all over my head then I put on mega tek a handful as well (pjism) then I just bought some keracare humecto and phyto organics hydraide which I just started using but I love them. I use one or the other. Ill decide which one is better with more use. I also put on butters now that its winter time. I listened to one of the posters on here and got butter from buttersnbars website and they are WONDERFUL they make your hair feel like..butter lol. Then I seal with coconut oil. Im gonna cut back on some products though cause its a bit much but it works

Like many ladies stated, I either do a few flat twists or braids then in the morning, i spritz with water, finger comb, add a moisturizer and voila..
i mostly wear my hair in shrunken fro and never comb

girl you are so exotic looking. the shape of your eyes are so pretty and your eyebrows are so full. NO homo! LOL! that fro is cute on you!

since she is a toddler, i would just spritz her hair with some type of detangling spray and lightly pick it, put a cute barrette, ribbon, or headband in and make it happen.

I wouldn't sleep on loose hair. I always twist it, braid it or bun it. In the morning, you can just finger comb it back into place. To get a round shape, run a scarf lightly over the hair.
